Roman Glass take the 3 points

Hellenic league champions Slimbridge travelled to Roman Glass this afternoon. The home side are coming off the back off a comfortable win against relegation threatened Cribbs on Bank Holiday Monday. Whereas Slimbridge are flying high off securing the league at Tuffley.

Slimbridge started brightly and enjoyed the better of the opening five minutes, but despite their early dominance they were unable to trouble Roman Glass goalkeeper Alex Kovacevic.

The home side created their first meaningful chance on 15 minutes following a flowing team move, which ended with Neikell Plummer striking the post from 12 yards. Roman Glass made their pressure count four minutes later when they opened the scoring. Chris Lines delivered a floated corner into the box and Loui Ward rose highest to head past Slimbridge goalkeeper Alex Hammond.

Roman Glass continued to push forward and almost doubled their advantage soon after, but Alex Hammond was equal to Laurent Wilson’s effort with a fine save.

The second half began with another opportunity from a set piece from the home side, as Loui Ward headed wide from a Chris Lines corner. However, Roman Glass soon extended their lead. Matt Spiller won possession with a welltimed tackle before playing a lofted ball over the top for LaurentWilson to run on to, and the forward calmly rolled his finish through the legs of Slimbridge goalkeeper Alex Hammond to make it 2–0.

The away side responded almost immediately, pulling a goal back with their first effort on target. Jack W Smith produced a weaving run before driving a shot into the far corner beyond Alex Kovacevic.

On 81 minutes, Slimbridge goalkeeper Alex Hammond received a yellow card and was sinbinned for the remainder of the match, forcing outfield player Hadyn Evans to take over in goal.

The game was settled in injury time when Roman Glass captain Jennison Williams saw his shot saved by stand in goalkeeper Haydn Evans, but the rebound spun into the air. Substitute Joe McClennen reacted quickest, challenging for the loose ball and forcing it over the line to seal the victory for the home side.

    Roman Glass line-up:

Kovacevic, Tierney, Spiller, Rudd, Lines, Ward, Stoneman (McClennen), Williams (c), Plummer (Hall), Hartley (Ono), Wilson. Unused: Anthony, Egan

Goal Feast at The Hallen Centre!

Longlevens come away with the 3 points.

With both teams sitting comfortably in the table not much was expected from this game, but how wrong can you be. For the neutrals it certainly delivered.

Hallen started on the front foot and their first goal of the game came within three minutes. A well worked free kick into the box allows Harrison Fairman to have a shot at goal and Luke Bence is there to re-direct into the opposite corner past Drew Brei in the Longlevens goal.

Longlevens hadn’t really started the game yet with 14 minutes on the clock. The home side had a chance to extend their lead with a lovely through ball by Hallen captain Corey Thomas-Barker, run onto by Harrison Fairman but he forces Drew Brei into a good save.

The away side started to grow into the game shortly after and their reward was an equaliser in the 27th minute. A long throw in by captain Ollie Long and a chest down by Brad Martin and some intricate play allows Brad Martin to play a through ball which allows Dafydd Hyett so slot home.

A corner by Longlevens was their route to take the lead on 34 minutes. It was swung in from the far side and somehow manages to find it’s way to Brad Martin at the back post who can’t miss by heading into an empty goal.

A quick fire double from the away side on 36 minutes. A long ball over the top of the Hallen defence and Hallen goalkeeper Harry Thomas-Barker comes out of his goal and miss controls, which allows Theo Bevan to run into the 18-yard box unchallenged to score into an open goal.

The 40-minute mark came and the was the fourth goal for Longlevens. Jack Beardsell runs through the Hallen defence and puts in a low cross for Dafydd Hyett who has a simple tap in.

The second half had no action to speak of whatsoever. That was until the 86th minute when Longelevens scored their fifth goal. Dafydd Hyett runs down the right and crosses for Gino Valcinti who calmly slots the ball past Harry Thomas-Barker.

    Hallen line-up:

Thomas-Barker, Holden, Frost, Bence, Blundell, Greenwood (Spence), White, Thomas-Barker (c), Fairman (Cousins) Camper (Tare), Busby (Bolshaw) Unused: Goldspink.

    Longlevens line-up:

Brei, Beardsell, Byard, Long, Wells, Holmes (Knight), Sherchan (Hundt), Driscoll, (Williams), Martin (Valcinti), Bevan (Graham), Hyett

  • Roman Glass cruise to a comfortable 2-0 win against Cribbs

Roman Glass cruise to a comfortable 2-0 win against Cribbs

    Written by: Matthew Rickwood

Roman Glass made it seven wins from seven this afternoon with a 2-0 win against Cribbs. As the home side look to cement their place in the Hellenic league playoffs. Whereas Cribbs are still languishing in the relegation zone with just two games left of the season. Results recently for Cribbs had looked up with nine points from a possible 18, bringing them closer to survival.

No sooner had we took our seats, and Roman Glass had scored after twenty-four seconds. A long ball from Loui Ward over the top of the Cribbs defence allowed striker Elliott Gardener to run through and execute a delightful lob over Cribbs goalkeeper Aaron Greatbanks.

Another chance for the home side quickly followed two minutes later as a free kick gets whipped into the box and a bit of pinball allowed Loui Ward a free shot, but it was well saved by the Cribbs goalkeeper.

In the 6th minute the second goal should have come but Joe McClennen’s effort hit the post for Roman Glass.

The home side’s dominance continued as on 20 minutes when they struck the post again through winger Laurent Wilson.

The game continued a good battle in the midfield for the reminder of the half as Cribbs started to grow into the game.

Cribbs started the second half much better as on 47 minutes they carved out their first chance of the game through Oscar Sullivan, but it was straight at goalkeeper Alex Kovacevic.

Another bit of good play from Cribbs mid-way though the half from substitute Luca Ponsillo as he weaved his way into the Roman Glass box and his cross found striker Trayvion Jackson but again his shot was straight at Alex Kovacevic in the Roman Glass goal.

The game went into a bit of a lull then with Roman Glass having a few set-pieces taken by Chris Lines, but they were well defended by Cribbs.

Cribbs had a good chance to make the game all square with thirteen minutes left when Michael Barry broke free on the left and whipped a good ball into the box. However, there were no red shirts on the end of the cross.

The game was finally over on 78 minutes when Connor Hartley fired into the Cribbs goal from eight yards. It started with good work down the left by Laurent Wilson who cut the ball back to the edge of the box and a few intricate passes from the home side created the chance for the goal.

    Roman Glass line up:

Kovacevic, Stoneman, Tierney, Budd (Ono), Lines, Ward, McClennen (Spiller), Williams (c), Gardner (Hartley), Plummer (Egan), Wilson. Subs not used (Hall)

    Cribbs line up:

Greatbanks, Farrow, Lock, Smith (c), (Kendall), Davis, (Ponsillo), Sullivan, (Lee), Sweete, Sterling, Barry, Stock, (Scott), Jackson, (Oppong).

  • Hallen fall at semi-final stage

    Hallen fall at semi-final stage

    Written by: Matthew Rickwood

    No Wembley date for Hallen

Well, here we are. The second leg of the FA Vase, with Hallen chasing a 0-3 deficit and Stoneham sitting comfortably.

In the first leg Stoneham cruised to victory scoring three goals in the first half. However, Hallen showed a better performance in the second half to make it a more even contest.  Hallen can turn this around with the goal tally they have created so far in the cup with seventeen. Whereas Stoneham is on an incredible run lasting thirty games in league and cup.

The first five minutes was a very even game with both teams struggling to get a hold of the game.

As the first ten minutes approached Hallen had shown they had settled the best forcing Stoneham to defend some long balls and early crosses.

The game showed no sign of breaking into life as the half approached it’s twenty-minute mark, all the action we had was a corner to speak of, which came to nothing. The first goal on the twenty-minute mark from the home team, a good one two between Alex Welch and Tyrrell Sampson resulted in a fired finish from about 12 yards out from the captain.

The half looked to be ending with the one goal, but Stoneham found the net for a second time on forty-two minutes through their captain Alex Welch for his second of the game. A through ball breaks the offside trap and the skipper ran through unchallenged to slot in past Harry Thomas-Barker in the Hallen goal.

A minute later the away side showed their first bit of attacking intent with captain Cory Thomas- Barker forcing Callum Lee into a decent save.

The second half started as the first half with lack of intent from either side to force an attack.

The first action came from a free kick from the right of the box by Lewis Nagle brilliantly saved by Harry Thomas-Barker. The home side started to turn up the pressure mid-way through the half as they searched for a third goal.

The third goal came for Stoneham in the sixty-seventh minute from a quick free kick which the Hallen defence were sleeping and Tyrrell Sampson fired into the goal from a tight angle.

However, Hallen did find their first goal of the game and tie with a long throw-in flicked on by Dylan Tate and quick feet in the box resulting in a shot by Sam Deuchars which nestled neatly into the corner of the goal which sparked wild celebrations from the away following.

    Stoneham line up:

Lee, Nagle (Dyer), Miller, Wells (Annetts), Welch (C), Sampson (Cluett), Jenkins (Orvis), Martins, Laycock (Fee), Kerton, Thomson.

    Hallen line up:

H Thomas-Barker, Holden (Greenwood), Iles (Tate), Blundell, Bence, Camper (Courtier), Jones, C Thomas- Barker (C), Fairman, Busby (Ford) Deuchars.

  • Neutral View….

    Neutral View….

Matthew Rickwood was in attendance for the recent clash between Slimbridge and Droitwich Spa, offering a grounded, observer’s perspective on a game that turned dramatically on its head. Watching closely from the stands, he had the best view of the night.

Have a read of his report!

    Droitwich suffer Slimbridge blues!

    Slimbridge continue promotion form.

Slimbridge, on a six-game winning run before start of play and free scoring with a total of 23 goals in total. Currently, they are six points clear at the top of the table ahead of second place Worcester Raiders.

The visitors, Droitwich Spa, have had an excellent debut season in the Hellenic league. However, they have had mixed fortunes in their last six games collecting 10 points from a possible 18, making them lose ground on the teams around them.

The two teams played recently in the UHL challenge cup with Droitwich coming away with a 1-4 win. The reverse fixture resulted in a 0-6 win for Slimbridge back in August.

The game started with the visitors showing some early signs of intent with captain James Lemon having a shot over the bar. The first five minutes Slimbridge were struggling to settle as they showed nervous signs on the ball.

The home side grew into the game over the next five minutes or so to even up to the tempo Droitwich had started with.

In the 13th minute the away side showed their first good bit of play with James Lemon with a great run and shot towards goal, luckily it was straight at Stephen Sarkodie in the Slimbridge goal.

In the 21st minute the game got stuck in a rut with both teams seeming to turn to the long ball, which resulted in a compilation of head Tennis. However, this resulted in Slimbridge showing their first attack with Jack W Smith having a good run and cutting inside the full back but fired his shot wide of the goal.

The best chance of the game fell to the visitors in the 33rdminute with a long throw into the box, a miscue header from Slimbridge full back Bogdan Mara, fell kindly for Alex Dugmore who tried an overhead kick but it just went over.

The deadlock was broken in first half stoppage time with Olly Sully. A fantastic individual effort in weaving in and out of four Droitwich defenders to fire past Joe Stockton in the Droitwich goal.

The second half took a while to get going with the first chance coming from the home side six minutes into the half. That man Olly Sully got free down the right and whipped a great ball into the box but unfortunately there were no takers in the centre.

Just before the 60-minute mark we had a bad challenge on the Slimbridge goalkeeper by Perry Moss which resulted in a yellow card. This seemed to lead to a bit of ill discipline from the visitors and another two yellow cards followed shortly after.

With twenty minutes left of the game Shiyak Sutherland created a great individually chance with quick feet but he fired straight at the goalkeeper. The home side continued to try and find the second of the game with great play with intricate passing resulting in a volley by Sam Blackie, which was well blocked by the Droitwich defence.

However, the second goal did come in the 84th minute with that man Shiyak Sutherland showing his quick feet to turn the centre half inside out and fire a shot into the goal. No sooner had we kicked of and the third goal followed a minute later. The Droitwich defence all at sea let a through ball from Joe Stokes go unchallenged and Jack Smith runs one on one with the goalkeeper and calmly takes it round him to pass into an empty goal.

    Slimbridge line up:

Sarkodie, Mara, Matthews, Kang (C), Giles, Haswell (Hitchings), Sully (Blackie), Stokes, Smith (Barnes) W Smith (Bell), Sutherland. Unused Rodgers.

    Droitwich Spa line up:

Stockton, Brighton, Phillips (Levy), Rudd (Jackson), Saunston, Tilbury, Moss (Taylor-Randle), Tilley, Dugmore (Baldwin), Binner (Dallaway), Lemon (C)

    Attendance: 248.

  • Hellenic League Div 1 Battles Pending

Hellenic League Div 1 Battles Pending

As we head into the weekend, FC Stratford sit top with 62 points from 25 games—a solid position, with Wantage breathing down their necks on 55 points after 26 games. Bewdley Town are also pushing hard, 54 points from just 24 games, meaning every point is vital for them. Stonehouse Town, in fourth, have played only 23 games, so they’ve got a real chance to leap up if they keep that momentum. Cheltenham Saracens currently hold the last playoff spot, fifth, with 39 points from 24 games—so a lot still to play for.

    Key Fixtures This Weekend

    • Cheltenham Saracens vs. Wellington
Cheltenham Saracens have been in decent form, two wins, two draws, one loss in their last five but they’ll need to keep that up against Wellington, who are just above the relegation zone. Every point could be a lifeline.

    • Wantage Town vs. Alcester Town

At home, Wantage will be keen to keep their promotion dream alive, two wins and two draws in their last five, so momentum is with them. Alcester, though, have struggled with three losses in their last five, so Wantage will be looking to pounce on that. With the new 4g at wantage town this game is for sure to be on!

    • Thame United Reserves vs. Chipping Sodbury
Tame may be bottom, but they’re not giving up two draws in the last five. Chipping Sodbury, in 12th, also haven’t had a great run just one win in their last five, so this could be a scrappy, hard-fought battle.

    • Redditch Borough vs. Shortwood United
Redditch are quietly dangerous seventh, 35 points from just 21 games. Shortwood United, in 16th, have lost three in their last five so Redditch will be hoping to grab another big win and keep climbing.

    Weather Watch

And yes, the weather because no football weekend is complete without a weather plot twist. Keep an eye on those pitches whether it’s a soggy start or a surprise sunny spell, it could shake up these crucial results. But it could also see more games off and the fixture team with more head scratching to

  • Hellenic Weekend Incoming!

    Hellenic Weekend Incoming!

Hellenic League Premier Division Table Update (After 28 Games)

Hold onto your hats—this season is tighter than your shin pads after a muddy match! Worcester Raiders are top with 58 points (and a goal difference so good, it could probably score a goal on its own). Right behind them, Droitwich Spa are snapping at their heels with 57 points—like a dog chasing a ball, just one point behind! Roman Glass, in third, have 55 points but a few extra games—so they’re like the tortoise in this epic promotion race.

Slimbridge (our plucky fourth place) and Corsham Town (fifth) are also in the mix, proving that every game counts—like a penalty shootout in the last minute.

    This Weekend’s Showdowns:

    • Worcester Raiders vs. Tuffley Rovers
Raiders will aim to stretch their lead, but Tuffley are sitting in seventh, who are no pushovers. A bit like David versus Goliath, except both are wearing studs. Lets keep them in the ground please.

    • Droitwich Spa vs. Cirencester Town
Second vs. sixth, like a top-of-the-league dance-off. If Cirencester win, it’s a bit like a mic drop that could echo into the playoffs. This is a game to watch!

    • Fairford Town vs. Cribbs
Fairford will fancy their chances, Cribbs are bottom, like a footballer stuck in their boots, but never under estimate a team like Cribbs. One thing is for sure manage Sam Collier will want to forget the 5-2 loss midweek and get to winning ways.

    • Hallen vs. West Didsbury (FA Vase)
Not a league game, but Hallen have a golden chance in the FA Vase, fingers crossed, lads! Go out there and show them what Hallen are made of!

    • Westfields vs. Cinderford
A three-point scramble, Westfields just three points behind Cinderford. It’s like a sprint to the finish, and we all know football sprints are the best kind of sprints! We are confident that the home team will want to wash away the loss at Tuffley last weekend, in fact their last league win was the 27th of December.. anyone growing their hair out for this one?

    Weather Update

And of course, we can’t forget the weather—because what’s football without a bit of mud, rain, and kit chaos? If it rains, keep your fingers crossed for those 4G pitches—no one wants to be cleaning mud off the kit for a week. But, hey, if the sun sneaks out, we might just have a cracking weekend of football!

  • 🔥 HELLENIC LEAGUE DIVISION ONE – AS IT STANDS 🔥

🔥 HELLENIC LEAGUE DIVISION ONE – AS IT STANDS 🔥

Where the title race is spicy, the middle is feral, and one dog might be barking a bit louder than the table allows…

🏆 THE TOP: Big Dogs, Bigger Statements

Out front, FC Stratford are setting the standard. 53 points, a healthy goal difference, and the look of a side that enjoys suffocating teams slowly and professionally. The league leaders know exactly what they’re doing – and they’re doing it well.

Right on their heels are Bewdley Town, just two points back and refusing to blink. Every dropped point at the top feels like blood in the water, and Bewdley are circling.

Then there’s Wantage Town. Third place, ridiculous goal difference, and quietly lurking like they’re more than happy to peak at exactly the right moment. If anyone’s got “late charge” written all over them, it’s Wantage.

🚀 THE CHASERS: Play-Offs or Bust

Stonehouse Town and Newent Town are locked in that awkward zone where you’re good enough to dream, but one dodgy run sends you tumbling back into the pack.

Malmesbury Victoria and Redditch Borough are hovering menacingly, with games in hand and momentum threatening to cause problems for anyone above them. Blink, and they’re knocking on the door.

Meanwhile Cheltenham Saracens are doing just enough to stay relevant, refusing to let the top half pull away completely.

😵‍💫 MID-TABLE MAYHEM: Choose Your Own Adventure

From Ludlow Town down to Woodford United, this is Division One’s no-man’s-land. Win two on the bounce and you’re sniffing the play-offs. Lose two and suddenly you’re Googling relegation permutations at midnight.

Alcester Town, Brimscombe & Thrupp, Chipping Sodbury, and Carterton are all living dangerously – inconsistent, unpredictable, and one Saturday away from either hero status or panic stations.

🚨 THE BOTTOM: Survival Mode Activated

    Things get grim quickly.

Wellington are battling through a tough campaign, Shortwood United are still searching for momentum, and then… well.

Clanfield 85 sit second bottom. 14 points, a rough goal difference, and plenty of noise for a team that’s still looking for answers. The confidence is admirable. The league table, less so. Let’s call it ambition slightly ahead of evidence.

And at the foot of it all, Thame United Reserves are enduring a season they’ll want to forget – five points, brutal numbers, and a long road ahead.

    ⚽ THE VERDICT

Top: Three teams, one prize, zero mercy Middle: Absolute carnage Bottom: Hard truths and harder Saturdays

Division One is delivering exactly what it promises: drama, tension, and enough storylines to fill the bar after full-time.

And as for the barking from down below? Results talk. The table listens. 🐕😉
