There was plenty of action across the Hellenic League and Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round today, Saturday 8 August, with several convincing victories and some dramatic late goals.
The biggest score of the day came at Wantage Town, where the hosts thrashed Redditch Borough 8-1. Casey Highmoor, Callum Crook and Luke Ballard all scored before half-time, while Alfie Tomlin, Seth Humphries, Kenzie Taylor and Harry Dawson added to Wantage’s tally after the break. Humphries struck twice in the second half.
Longlevens also enjoyed a six-goal afternoon, beating Malmesbury Victoria 6-1. Kassa Anderson gave Malmesbury the lead, but Finlay Gwillim equalised before Longlevens took control. Oliver Long, Gwillim, Alex Knight and Gino Valenti all scored, with Gwillim completing his hat-trick late on.
Thatcham Town recorded another emphatic victory, defeating Cinderford Town 5-1. Levi Heholt, Kyle Tooze, Andrew Matthews, Charlie Knight and Callum Winchcombe were the scorers for Thatcham, while Tino Shumba replied for Cinderford.
Nuneaton Town were also among the day’s big winners, beating Westfields 5-2. Eesa Sawyers, Bradley Stretton, Terry Atem and James Armson were on target, with Stretton scoring twice.
Swindon Supermarine came from behind to beat Tuffley Rovers 3-1. Tuffley took the lead through Connor Walters’ penalty, but Connor McDonagh, Dan Warre and Lucas Wilkinson all scored in the closing stages to turn the match around.
There was late drama at Roman Glass St George, where Hallen’s Luke Bence scored in the 90th minute to secure a 2-2 draw.
Devizes Town claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Hamworthy Recreation, with Callum Demkiv scoring the only goal in the 23rd minute. Millbrook also kept a clean sheet, beating Bradford Town 2-0.
In Hellenic League Division One, Cheltenham Saracens beat Newent Town 3-0, while Alcester Town won 2-0 at Shortwood United and Stonehouse Town edged Chipping Sodbury Town 1-0.
