    The competition was fierce, the performances outstanding, and now the winners have been crowned! Here’s how the top spots shaped up across the divisions:

    Premier Division

    • 1st Place: Longlevens – Dominating the field with skill and consistency!
    • 2nd Place: Droitwich Spa – A strong showing, pushing hard for the top.
    • 3rd Place: Corsham Town – Impressive resilience and teamwork.

    Division One

    • 1st Place: Bewdley Town – Leading the charge with exceptional play!
    • 2nd Place: Chipping Sodbury Town – A fantastic effort securing silver.
    • 3rd Place: Newent Town – Holding their ground with determination.

    Alliance Division

    Much needed rain this week, let us hope it knows when to stop!!

    In the Isuzu FA Vase First Round Proper on Saturday, the long trips for Lydney Town and Newent Town to Cornwall and Barnstaple respectively ended in 4-0 defeat for Lydney and 5-0 defeat for Newent Town. Hopefully everyone had a good day out. The other games resulted in Highworth Town, Cirencester Town, FC Stratford, Malmesbury Victoria and Droitwich Spa going out. (FC Stratford went out on penalties.) Going through to the next round were Cinderford Town (on penalties), Thornbury Town (on penalties), Hallen, Corsham Town and Slimbridge. Shortwood United’s game away to Street was abandoned after 75 minutes due to a serious injury to a Street player. This game will be replayed and I will cover the next round leading up to the games.

    In the UHL Premier Division on Saturday, Worcester Raiders bounced back in style from their recent defeats beating Royal Wootton Bassett Town 7-1, there was a surprise home defeat for leaders Roman Glass St George, losing 2-1 at home to Hereford Pegasus with the winning goal for the away team coming in the 96th minute. Mangotsfield United beat Tuffley Rovers 2-1 with their winning goal also coming in the 96th minute. Westfields picked up a good away win at Pershore Town winning 1-0 to move into the top 5 and Cribbs v Longlevens ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw.

    In UHL Division One, Carterton continued with their good form winning 2-1 v Wellington, Wantage Town who are in good form themselves beat Redditch Borough 5-2, leaders Bewdley Town won 2-1 away v Woodford United, Clanfield 85 returned to winning ways beating Alcester Town 3-2, Stonehouse Town won 4-1 away v Ludlow Town, and Chipping Sodbury Town had a 94th minute wonder strike by Lewis Bezer to thank for their 2-1 win v Brimscombe & Thrupp. On Tuesday evening, Clanfield 85 lost 3-2 at home to Malmesbury Victoria and on the same night Ludlow Town won 5-1 at home v Easington Sports Development in the Wiseman Lighting (UHL) Floodlit Cup.

    Headington Amateurs v Hungerford Town Reserves finished 4-4 in Alliance East.

    Highworth Town Reserves v Evesham United Reserves finished 5-2 in Alliance West.

    There were several Vets games played on Wednesday evening with a few postponements as well.

    I wanted to pay tribute to Lydney Town’s Roger Sansom, who recently celebrated his 50 years of service to Lydney Town. I have known Roger for a very long time and always think of him as Mr Lydney Town. The club have just bestowed the honour of naming the ground Sansom Park and proudly display the sign. Take a bow Roger and he is to many more years.

    Title Race on a Knife Edge as Slimbridge Circle the Leaders

    The Hellenic League Premier Division is bubbling up nicely and we’ve got a proper title scrap on our hands. Roman Glass St George and Droitwich Spa are locked together on 26 points at the top, but it’s Glass who just shade it thanks to their extra game in hand and a slightly sharper goal difference.

    But the story doesn’t end there. Slimbridge, sitting pretty in third, have only played nine games and already racked up 22 points with a monster +18 goal difference. If the Swans keep soaring, they could leapfrog the lot and blow this title race wide open.

    Westfields and Worcester Raiders aren’t going away either. Raiders, in particular, look dangerous: just eight matches played, six wins on the board, and goals flying in left, right and centre. Don’t bet against them making a serious charge once the fixture backlog clears.

    At the wrong end, Hallen are still searching for that elusive first win, bottom with just two points from nine. Lydney Town are leaking goals like a sieve, Cribbs can’t find their rhythm, and Royal Wootton Bassett are nervously glancing over their shoulders.

    It’s shaping up to be a season where consistency is king and with the chasing pack breathing down their necks, Roman Glass and Droitwich know one slip could flip the table on its head. The title race? Far from settled. In fact, it’s only just catching fire.

    This Year’s Leaders:

    • Cheltenham Saracens are the new pace-setters, sitting top with 21 points from 9 games. Last year, they were mid-table at this stage—what a turnaround!
    • Redditch Borough, Bewdley Town, and Newent Town are all tied on 19 points, hot on the leaders’ heels. Redditch and Bewdley were both in the mix last year, but Newent have made a huge leap from 16th to 4th!

    Last Year’s Leaders:

    • Droitwich Spa were untouchable, unbeaten with 22 points from 8 games and a monstrous +28 goal difference. They’ve since moved up a division, leaving the title race wide open for new contenders.

    📈 Biggest Risers & Surprise Packages

    • Cheltenham Saracens: From 12th last year to 1st now arguably the story of the season so far!
    • Newent Town: From the relegation zone to the promotion chase. Their 19 points and +9 goal difference are a world away from last year’s 3 points and -11.
    • FC Stratford & Ludlow Town: Both have climbed into the top 7, showing real consistency.

    📉 Falling Stars & Strugglers

    • Clanfield 85: Last year, they were 6th with 12 points from 6. This year? 17th with just 4 points from 8. Ouch.
    • Shortwood United & Wellington: Both have slipped from mid-table safety to the relegation zone, struggling for wins and leaking goals.
    • Thame United Reserves: New to the league and finding it tough, with just 4 points from 10.

    ⚔️ Mid-Table Madness

    • Malmesbury Victoria, Woodford United, Brimscombe & Thrupp, Chipping Sodbury Town, Wantage Town: All are in the thick of it, separated by just a few points. Any of these could make a late surge or get dragged into a scrap.

    🏁 What’s Changed?

    • More Competition at the Top: Last year, Droitwich Spa were running away with it. This year, it’s a real dogfight, just 5 points separate the top 7!
    • New Contenders: Teams like Cheltenham Saracens and Newent Town have shaken up the established order.
    • Tighter Relegation Battle: The bottom five are all struggling, but a couple of wins could change everything.

    Summary:

    This season’s Hellenic League Division One is wide open, unpredictable, and packed with storylines. The old guard have moved on or slipped down, and new heroes are emerging. If you love a league where anyone can beat anyone, this is the one to watch! Table review vs this time in season 24/25.     Sitting pretty at the top, Roman Glass St George are the team to beat. With 7 wins and 2 draws from 9 games, they’re unbeaten and have a goal difference that says, “Catch us if you can!” Their attacking flair and solid defence have made them the early pacesetters.

    🥈 Droitwich Spa: Hot on Their Heels

    Just three points behind, Droitwich Spa are keeping the pressure on. They’ve played a game more, but with 6 wins and only 2 losses, they’re proving they’re no pushovers. Can they keep up the chase?

    🥉 Slimbridge: The Dark Horses

    Slimbridge have quietly crept into third, boasting 6 wins from 7 and a whopping +16 goal difference. They’re the league’s entertainers, if you want goals, watch Slimbridge!

    🔥 Mid-Table Mayhem

    Hereford Pegasus, Corsham Town, Worcester Raiders, Tuffley Rovers, and Westfields are all bunched up, separated by just a few points. Any of these sides could make a charge for the top spots if they find consistency.

    ⚠️ Trouble at the Bottom

    It’s looking grim for Hallen and Lydney Town, who are still searching for their first win. Lydney, in particular, have a goal difference of -23, ouch! Cribbs and Royal Wootton Bassett Town are also hovering dangerously close to the drop zone.

    ⚽ Ones to Watch

    Worcester Raiders: Only 6 games played but already 5 wins, could they be the league’s sleeping giants?

    Mangotsfield United & Pershore Town: Both have shown flashes of brilliance and could climb quickly with a good run.

    The Hellenic League is serving up classic non-league chaos, big wins, shock results, and a table that’s tighter than a new pair of boots. Will Roman Glass St George keep soaring, or will Droitwich Spa and Slimbridge catch them? Stay tuned, because this title race is just getting started! With week and weeks of football left, its the best time of year!

    Looking good weather for football this weekend.!!

    This Saturday sees the Isuzu FA Vase Second Round Qualifying and we still have 16 teams left in the competition. There are several all UHL ties, so we will still have teams in the next round. Let us hope some of our clubs can emulate Hartpury University’s exploits of last season. (The final is the aim for this season though!!) All the best to all of our Teams. 

    In the UHL Premier Division on Saturday, leaders Roman Glass St George continued their unbeaten run with a 2-0 away win at Westfields. Slimbridge, who are also unbeaten and already have a goal difference of +19 won 4-1 away v Highworth Town. Droitwich Spa, who sit in between Roman Glass St George and Slimbridge in 2ndwon 3-0 at home v Corsham Town. Big news at the bottom saw Lydney Town getting their 1st win with a 3-0 home win v Royal Wootton Bassett Town.  Longlevens continued their revival with a 3-0 home win v Hallen, who still remain without a win and now have dropped into bottom spot.Hereford Pegasus and Fairford Town played out a 6-goal thriller with Fairford Town scoring 2 second half goals to win the game 4-2. Thornbury Town and Cribbs ended 2-2 with all 4 goals coming in the second half. Pershore Townwon away 2-1 at Tuffley Rovers despite being 1-0 down up until the 57th minute. Cinderford v Mangotsfield Unitedand Worcester Raiders v Cirencester Town both ended 0-0. Apologies to Westfields who I incorrectly called Westfield by a Typo in last week’s notes. (I will endeavor not to let it happen again, but I am pleased folks do read these notes!)

    In UHL Division One, leaders Cheltenham Saracenscontinued their impressive form by winning 2-1 at home v Stonehouse Town coming from 1-0 down. Redditch Borough had a narrow 1-0 away win v Shortwood United. Bewdley, who are also a side in fine form won 4-1 at home v Wantage Town, Newent Town, who are on a great run themselves continued, with a 2-0 home win v Woodford United. Brimscombe & Thrupp and Malmesbury Victoria played out a 0-0 and Chipping Sodbury Town won 3-1 at home v Alcester Town.  A thrilling 6 goal game at FC Stratford saw them winning 4-2 v Wellington with some very late goals in the game. Ludlow Town won 2-1 at home v Carterton. In mid-week, Bewdley Town rounded off an impressive few days with a 2-1 home win v promotion rivalsRedditch Borough, the winning goal coming in the 94thminute.  It is very tight at the top and equally tight at the bottom of the table. 

    In the UHL Challenge Cup, Thames United Reserves won 3-0 v Clanfield 85. 

    The Alliance East had 3 games over the weekend and there were plenty of goals. Eversley & California Reserves won 4-0 v Kidlington Development, Headington Amateurs won 4-1 v Penn & Tylers Green United and Marlow Reserves won 8-1 v Hambleden.

    The Alliance West had 2 games with Clanfield 85 Reserves losing 6-1 at home to the University of Bristoland Mangotsfield United Development winning 5-2 v Newent Town Development. 

    There were also a good range of Vets games in midweek, good to see those games being populated across the two divisions.

    Pitches are greening up nicely! Let us hope we do not have any postponements now!

    The weekend produced a full program in the UHL Premier, Division One and 8 games spread over the Alliance East and Alliance West. The Vets kicked off in the week as well, so it’s full steam ahead.

    In the UHL Premier Division previous leaders Droitwich Spa travelled away to Cribbs and were held to a 1-1 draw. Taking over top spot were Roman Glass St George who produced a commanding 5-0 home win over Lydney Town. Slimbridge continued their goal scoring spree hitting 5 without reply against Pershore Town at home. Cirencester Town beat Mangotsfield United 2-0 at home, Corsham Town won 1-0 at home v Tuffley Rovers, Westfield travelled to Fairford Town and won 2-0, Worcester Raiders won 2-0 away v Hallen, Cinderford Town travelled to Hereford Pegasus and won 2-1, Highworth won 1-0 at home in the local Derby v Royal Wootton Bassett Town and Longlevens travelled to Thornbury Town and won 2-0 with their second goal coming in the 99th minute. Roman Glass St George sit in top spot and share an unbeaten record with Slimbridge who sit in 3rd with Droitwich Spa in between them in second. At the bottom, Hallen sit in 19th and Lydney Town in 20th with both sides seeking their first wins of the season. There were three midweek games in which Roman Glass St George kept up their unbeaten record winning 2-1 away v Cirencester Town, Tuffley travelled to Lydney Town and won 4-1 and Worcester Raiders maintained their good form with a 3-1 home win v Thornbury Town.

    In UHL Division One, leaders Malmesbury Victoria lost 2-1 at home v FC Stratford, Redditch Borough held on for a 3-2 home win v Wellington, despite them being 3-0 up in the first half. Newent Town continued their good form with a 5-4 away win v Thame United Reserves. The full story of this match is pretty impressive with Newent Town going 2-0 up early in the first half, Thame United Reserves leading 3-2 at half time, Newent Town pulling back to 3-3, Thame United Reserves going 4-3 up, Newent Town coming back to 4-4, then Newent Town winning 5-4. A hat-trick and match ball for Newent Town’s Kyle Taylor. What an advert for UHL Division One football. Cheltenham Saracens returned to winning ways and won 2-1 at home v Alcester Town. Brimscombe & Thrupp travelled to Carterton and won 2-0. Bewdley Town travelled to Clanfield 85 and won 3-1. Ludlow Town won 3-1 at home v Shortwood United. Stonehouse Town won 3-1 at home in the local Derby v Chipping Sodbury Town. Woodford United drew 2-2 at home v Wantage Town. There was one midweek game which saw Cheltenham Saracens pick up a narrow 1-0 home win v FC Stratford to move into top spot in the table.

    The Alliance East had 5 games over the weekend with one on Friday night. The Friday night game produced an interesting result with Hungerford Town Reserves beating Hambleden 16-1. Message from Hambleden stating Hunderford Town Reserves may be too strong for this league will be interesting to observe in the upcoming weeks. Upon checking with Bill B and Brian K this is not a record result in the Hellenic League, and we have had 17 goals scored by one team in the past. The other games produced wins for Banbury United, Headington Amateurs, Marlow FC Reserves and Eastington Sports Development.

    The Alliance West had 4 games with wins for Clanfield 85 Reserves, Highworth Town Reserves and Wantage Town FC U23 with another goal fest to report with Carterton Development winning 5-4 away at Evesham United Reserves.

    Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Clive Baker, Club Vice President and former Chairman of Brimscombe & Thrupp FC. Clive was a legend at the Club and part of the band of great people who always look after everyone visiting so very well. The recent news of the passing of Clive is truly sad and we all offer our condolences to Clive’s family, friends and all at Brimscombe & Thrupp FC. RIP Clive.

    The first Team of the Month awards for the new season have been confirmed, recognising outstanding performances both on and off the field.

    In the Premier Division, Roman Glass St George have been named Team of the Month for August. A strong start to the campaign, marked by consistent results and impressive displays, has set the tone for their season. Their on-field success reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved at the club. The award was presented by League Chair Bill Beach at their recent fixture with Cirencester Town, where Roman Glass ran out 2–0 winners in a thrilling contest.

    In Division One, the award goes to Malmesbury Victoria, who have enjoyed an excellent opening month. Their performances on the pitch have been matched by the positive way the club continues to represent itself, highlighting the standards expected both during matches and around the ground. Craig Davenport headed down to Brimscombe & Thrupp to catch the action and present Malmesbury with their award.

    These awards are based primarily on on-field performances, but the broader picture of how clubs operate and conduct themselves off the pitch is also recognised. Both Roman Glass and Malmesbury have shown themselves to be excellent ambassadors for their divisions, and their achievements in August deserve this recognition. Well Done to both teams and all the volunteers at these clubs.

    It was a proper Tuesday night shift across the FA Cup and Hellenic League as teams battled under the lights, chasing early-season momentum and, in some cases, a slice of FA Cup magic.

    In the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replays, Mangotsfield United edged past Bristol Manor Farm in a tight 1–0 affair. Not much in it, but a single goal was all it took to book their place in the next round. Reading City put in a professional showing with a 2–0 win over Cirencester Town, looking every bit like a team who fancy a cup run. Virginia Water and Thornbury Town served up the game of the night with a 3–2 thriller, late drama, goals galore, and a crowd that definitely got its money’s worth.

    In the Hellenic Premier, there were signs of rust shaking off and statements being made. Droitwich Spa produced a demolition job, steamrolling Westfields 5–0. A serious marker from the Spa lads and an early contender for performance of the week. Cinderford Town also found their groove, hitting four past Cribbs in a dominant 4–1 win. At the other end of the spectrum, Hallen and Pershore Town played out a lively 2–2 draw with neither side quite able to wrestle control.

    Corsham Town will be quietly pleased with a clean sheet and a 1–0 win over Highworth, while Fairford Town and Slimbridge shared the spoils 1–1 in a contest that felt like two points dropped for both sides.

    Down in Hellenic Division One, things were as unpredictable as ever. Brimscombe & Thrupp emerged victorious in a wild 3–2 clash with Chipping Sodbury Town. End-to-end stuff and three points just about deserved. Malmesbury Victoria also got the job done with a solid 2–1 win against Stonehouse Town, while Woodford United took all three away at Carterton FC thanks to a single-goal cushion.

    Wantage Town did just enough to edge past Thame United Reserves 1–0, while Shortwood United and Clanfield 85 shared a goal apiece and a point each. Ludlow Town and Newent Town drew 1–1.

    One of the more entertaining clashes saw Wellington and Alcester Town draw 2–2 – plenty of attacking intent, less defensive structure, and two sets of fans with raised blood pressure.

    Elsewhere, the drama wasn’t limited to the pitch Bewdley Town’s clash with Redditch Borough was abandoned. We were made aware of an injury to a player at the time of writing this and we wish Thoses injured a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, Cheltenham Saracens v FC Stratford was postponed, because it’s not a Tuesday night in August without at least one mystery P-P…. But in reality we’re informed it was a flood light postponement and we hope more light can shine on this at a later date!

    All in all, it was a night of goals, red cards, graft, and early-season unpredictability. August football never disappoints and neither did tonight. Cup dreams are alive, league tables are starting to shape, and some teams already have a lot to think about at Thursday’s training! Looking forward to a full fixture list Saturday where more teams will go in to battle to see who can come out on top and take all three points.

    Football fans across the region were treated to a feast of goals, drama, and cup magic this afternoon as the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round took centre stage alongside a full fixture list in the Hellenic Division One.

    Emirates FA Cup – Extra Preliminary Round Highlights

    Roman Glass St George set the tone with a Friday night demolition job, hammering Nailsea & Tickenham 7–0 in the round’s biggest scoreline.

    Elsewhere, Fairford Town stunned Longlevens AFC with an emphatic 5–1 away victory, while Tuffley Rovers edged out Hartpury University 2–1 in a competitive Gloucestershire derby.

    There was late heartbreak for Cinderford Town, who were narrowly beaten 1–0 by Amersham Town, and Slimbridge secured a gritty 1–0 win at Corsham Town.

    Cribbs continued their impressive form with a confident 2–0 victory over Easington Sports, and Hallen edged past Highworth Town 1–0.

    Lye Town impressed on the road, dispatching Hereford Pegasus 2–0, while Pershore Town got the better of Darlaston Town with a 2–1 win.

    Racing Club Warwick and Worcester Raiders both advanced thanks to 2–1 and 1–0 victories over Droitwich Spa and Ashby Ivanhoe respectively.

    Mangotsfield United and Bristol Manor Farm will need a replay after a 1–1 draw, as will Thornbury Town and Virginia Water, who shared four goals in an entertaining 2–2 stalemate.

    Perhaps the game of the round came at Lydney Town, who played out a thrilling 3–3 draw with Royal Wootton Bassett Town, while Cirencester Town and Reading City couldn’t be separated in a goalless affair.

    Finally, Atherstone Town took the spoils in a 4–2 goal-fest away at Westfields.

    Hellenic Division One – Local Round-Up

    It was a goal-laden day in Division One too, with Woodford United edging Bewdley Town 4–3 in a rollercoaster clash.

    Cheltenham Saracens impressed with a 4–2 win over Shortwood United, while Brimscombe & Thrupp picked up a strong 3–1 home victory against Wantage Town.

    F C Stratford earned a solid 2–0 away win at Clanfield 85, and Malmesbury Victoria were narrow 2–1 winners at Newent Town.

    Alcester Town returned from Stonehouse Town with a 2–0 win, while Carterton secured a tight 1–0 victory against Chipping Sodbury Town.

    In the final fixture, Thame United Reserves beat Wellington 3–1 to round off a successful afternoon for the home side.

    Looking Ahead

    With replays now on the horizon for several ties and momentum building across both competitions, the 2025–26 campaign is already delivering on excitement. Stay tuned as the drama continues in midweek with FA Cup replays and more league action.
