    Weekly Update – 20/02/26

From what looked like being a complete washout last weekend, things actually turned out far better than expected. If we end up with a hosepipe ban this summer, perhaps it’s time for the Hellenic Lawyers to take on the water companies! Cheltenham today has delivered what feels like four seasons in one day, so let’s hope for a return to some settled, dry weather.

In the Isuzu FA Vase 5th Round last Saturday, Hallen produced an outstanding performance, beating Gornal Athletic 3–0. Harrison Fairman grabbed two of the goals in a superb display that sees Hallen progress to the quarter-finals. They have another home tie on 28th February, which I’ll highlight again in the coming weeks — a great occasion for the club.

In the UHL Premier Division, with several sides involved in cup action, we had three league fixtures last weekend. Corsham Town travelled to in-form Cinderford Town and were beaten 3–1. Tuffley Rovers made the trip to Pershore Town and came away with an impressive 3–0 win, with the ever-reliable Karnell Chambers once again finding the net. Royal Wootton Bassett Town hosted Westfields and continued their steady climb up the table with a convincing 3–0 victory. Longlevens v Cribbs fell victim to Friday’s downpours despite Longlevens’ best efforts to get the game on.

On Tuesday evening, Lydney Town hosted Hereford Pegasus, with Pegasus running out 2–1 winners. Fairford Town travelled to Westfields and continued their own climb up the table with a 2–0 victory. Reports suggest both pitches were in excellent condition despite recent flooding, so huge credit must go to the grounds staff at Lydney and Westfields for their hard work.

In the UHL Challenge Cup, Hereford Pegasus edged past Highworth Town 1–0. Slimbridge made the short trip to Stonehouse Town for a Gloucestershire derby and secured a 3–1 win. Worcester Raiders faced a long journey to Mangotsfield United, with the match finishing 2–2 in normal time before Raiders prevailed 5–3 on penalties.

In the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup on Tuesday, Highworth Town made the long midweek journey to Alcester Town and returned with an emphatic 5–0 win, including a hat-trick from Bonsa Teshome. Cribbs hosted Longlevens but were beaten 3–1.

In UHL Division One, five league matches were played on Saturday. FC Stratford maintained top spot with a 2–0 away win at Ludlow Town. Wantage Town kept up the pressure with a 2–1 home victory over Brimscombe & Thrupp. Malmesbury Victoria were narrowly beaten 3–2 by Clanfield 85 in a five-goal thriller. Cheltenham Saracens drew 2–2 with Thame United Reserves, with Thame equalising in the 88th minute. Wellington enjoyed a welcome 4–1 win over Chipping Sodbury Town. Redditch Borough v Bewdley Town was postponed.

In the UHL Supplementary Challenge Cup, Shortwood and Hungerford Town Reserves drew 1–1 before Shortwood triumphed 4–2 on penalties. In midweek, Marlow Reserves beat Thame United Reserves 3–1.

Finally, in the Batemans Sports Alliance Challenge Cup, Evesham United Reserves hosted Banbury United Development but were beaten 7–1.

Let’s hope for a full programme and plenty of football to enjoy this weekend.

  • Hellenic Premier Division – This Weekend’s Mouth-Watering Fixtures

Hellenic Premier Division – This Weekend’s Mouth-Watering Fixtures

The Hellenic Premier Division table is tighter than a pre-season hamstring and this weekend could seriously shake things up. With just a handful of points separating promotion chasers and the playoff hopefuls sharpening their studs, we’ll no to sharp as we all know what the referees can be like!

We’re heading into one of those Saturdays where literally everything matters.

    Let’s dive in…

🥇 Title Race – No Margin for Error

Droitwich Spa sit top on 57 points, but they’ll be watching nervously with second and third breathing down their necks.

Roman Glass St George (55 pts) – Games played: 30. They’ve played more than anyone in the top five, so every slip now feels like dropping your phone face-down on concrete. Slimbridge (54 pts) – With games in hand and serious momentum, they’re the team nobody wants to see in their rear-view mirror. Worcester Raiders (52 pts) & Corsham Town (51 pts) – Both within striking distance and absolutely not going quietly.

    And speaking of Slimbridge…

    🐦 Slimbridge v Corsham Town – “Don’t Blink” Territory

    Third vs fifth.

    54 points vs 51 points.

This isn’t just a game. It’s a battle for the points, will The home side have that 12 man in the crowd roaring them on?

Slimbridge have been clinical, while Corsham have been quietly efficient all season. Expect tackles flying in like someone’s turned the aggression slider up to 99. Taking Charge of this fixture is referee Joshua Marchant who will ensure the tackles are firm but fair and safe!

If Slimbridge win, they crank the pressure on the top two.

If Corsham win, the playoff race becomes a royal rumble.

    Popcorn? Essential.

🟡 Cirencester Town v Worcester Raiders – The Statement Fixture

Sixth host fourth. Cirencester (48 pts) aren’t out of the conversation yet, but they need a scalp.

Worcester Raiders, meanwhile, are lurking. They’ve got a solid goal difference and know that a win here keeps them breathing down the necks of the top three.

This one has “proper football match” written all over it. Mud, noise, and someone shouting “ref, that’s a booking all day” before the coin toss!! . However we all know this won’t have any mud with it being a 4g surface however we fully expect the shouting at the referee!

⚔️ Highworth Town v Longlevens AFC – The Quietly Massive One

Longlevens (34 pts) have games in hand and a decent goal difference. Highworth (29 pts) need points like you need WiFi on a Monday morning.

Win for Longlevens and they creep closer to mid-table safety with momentum building.

Win for Highworth and suddenly the bottom half tightens up like a badly tied bootlace.

🚨 Basement Battle – Pershore Town v Hallen

    16th vs 19th.

    27 points vs 20 points.

Pershore will see this as must-win. Hallen will see it as season-defining.

These are the games where form goes out the window and heart takes over. Expect effort, chaos, and possibly someone cramping up in the 89th minute. The post match pint and pie will have been well earned after this fixture.

🧨 Cribbs v Mangotsfield United – Can Cribbs Spark Something?

Cribbs are bottom on 18 points. But draws haven’t been their problem turning them into wins has.

Mangotsfield sit mid-table on 36, comfortably uncomfortable. This is a dangerous fixture for them. Play relaxed and they could get caught.

You just know Cribbs will throw everything at this. But not to much as in charge of this one is referee Sam Myatt with Alan Berrow and Malcom Stuward. Lots of experience.

👀 Hereford Pegasus v Thornbury Town

Pegasus (36 pts) are hovering in that “we’re fine… probably” zone. Thornbury (24 pts) are not.

A win for Pegasus gives them breathing space.

A win for Thornbury drags Pegasus right back into it.

    Cue tension.

🟣 Royal Wootton Bassett Town v Cinderford Town

Bassett (31 pts) need to halt the slide.

Cinderford (36 pts) are steady but not spectacular.

If Bassett win, they create daylight between themselves and the bottom four. If they don’t… it’s squeaky-bum territory.

🌊 Lydney Town v Fairford Town

Lydney (21 pts) are fighting for survival.

Fairford (36 pts) are fighting for consistency.

Lydney need to make home advantage count. This is one of those afternoons where passion could outweigh league position.

    🟢 Tuffley Rovers v Westfields

Tuffley (38 pts) are comfortably mid-table and playing without fear.

Westfields (33 pts) need points to avoid being dragged back into danger.

Mid-table games are never boring in this league. They’re just unpredictable chaos in shin pads. One thing that is for sure the players of the Westfield side will be able to hear the manager from this side and we hear the match referee has a swear jar at the ready!

    🎯 The Big Picture

The title race? Still wide open. The playoffs? Brutal. The relegation scrap? Absolutely alive.

This is proper non-league football. No VAR. No theatre. Just pride, points, and probably a dog running across the pitch at some point. And also Pete’s remember to have fun out on the fields. The weather we hope will hold off and all games will go ahead as planned. With more games planned in the midweek the season is really hotting up, the games are coming thick and fast.

    Strap in. Saturday is coming

  • Weekly Update 13/02/26

    Weekly Update 13/02/26

The rain took a massive toll on fixtures last weekend with only 3 surviving. One of these was the grass pitch at Pershore Town, a massive thanks to the grounds-staff at Pershore which must have been a huge effort. With more rain this week, we have already lost some games that were due to be played tomorrow.

Hallen’.’ 5th round of the Isuzu FA Vase hosting Gornal Athletic who sit 2nd in Division One of the Midland Football League will be attempted at Hallen again on Saturday. Fingers crossed the game goes ahead and all the best to Hallen.

In the UHL Premier Division last Saturday, where we had 2 games surviving the weather, two of the current top 3 played. 2nd placed Roman Glass St. George hosted Fairford Town, who last time out won 7-3 away at SlimbridgeFairford ripped the form book up again and won 4-0 to dent Roman Glass St George’s eye on top spot in the division. A real 5-goal thriller took place on the grass at Pershore Town where they hosted 3rd placed Slimbridge. Pershore had beaten promotion chasing Cirencester Town the week before. The game was poised at 1-1 going in at the interval. Pershore then went 2-1 up and almost added a 3rd that was well saved by the Slimbridge goalkeeper. Into the last ten minutes and Slimbridge leveled with regular marksman Jack W Smithfinding the net with a header. Deep into stoppage time Slimbridge completed the victory with Smith again on the mark to seal the win. Slimbridge are still 3rd but hot on the heels of the top two with games in hand.

In UHL Division One on Saturday, we only had 1 game played. Malmesbury Victoria borrowed Cirencester Towns’ 3G pitch and hosted fellow 3G pitch owners Wantage Town. The game finished 2-2 with Wantage firmly in 3rd place and Malmesbury just one place outside of the play-off places. On Tuesday, Brimscombe & Thrupp v Carterton was the only survivor of the night and it was well worth it for Brimscombe & Thrupp who won convincingly 6-1. Again, a great effort by the grounds team at the club.

We had 3 Vets games to survive the weather on Wednesday. In Division One there were wins for Woodley United Vets at home v Watlington Town Old Boys Vets and Gording United vets at home v Marcham Vets. In theVets League Cup, Thame United Vets beat Bicester Town Vets.

Team of the month for January:

    Premier Division – Worcester Raiders

    Division One – Bewdley Town

Lookout for the trophy presentation in due course and congratulations.

This Sunday, myself, Bill B and Brian K are heading to St. Georges Park for a Steps 5 and 6 Leagues Meeting which brings together all Step 5 and 6 Leagues from across the country. Main topics are: FA Referees Update, Club Licensing and a Step 6 Review. I will look to provide some snippets over the coming weeks for you.

Hoping for a good proportion of games tomorrow!!!  🤞🤞

  • 🌧️ SATURDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2026 – MATCHDAY ROUND-UP

    🌧️ SATURDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2026 – MATCHDAY ROUND-UP

Football: 4 games. Rain: absolutely rampant.

If you turned up expecting a full programme of football, you were wildly optimistic.

If you brought wellies, a snorkel, and low expectations — you were spot on.

This was not a football Saturday.

    This was a hydrology conference.

    🏆 ISUZU FA VASE

Hallen vs Gornal Athletic – P-P

The Vase will have to wait. Hallen’s pitch joined the witness protection programme.

    ⚽ HELLENIC PREMIER DIVISION

Inspectors arrived. Inspectors laughed nervously. Inspectors postponed everything.

Highworth Town vs Worcester Raiders – P-P Cinderford Town vs Royal Wootton Bassett Town – P-P Corsham Town vs Cirencester Town – P-P Cribbs vs Westfields – P-P Droitwich Spa vs Lydney Town – P-P Longlevens AFC vs Mangotsfield United – P-P Thornbury Town vs Hereford Pegasus – P-P

At this point, clubs were just sending “P-P” messages pre-emptively.

🌟 THE TWO THAT SURVIVED (SOMEHOW)

    Pershore Town 2–3 Slimbridge

One of the few pitches brave (or foolish) enough to host football.

Pershore led 2–0, Slimbridge responded with three goals and zero mercy.

Football happened. Everyone immediately went home to dry out.

Roman Glass St George 0–4 Fairford Town

    Yes. This one was real.

    Yes. Fairford absolutely turned up.

Fairford made light work of conditions that looked borderline inflatable, storming into a 2–0 half-time lead before pulling away after the break.

    Goals from:

Charles Holliday (17) Harrison Edwards (37) Sol Pryce (48) Elliott Haffenden (70)

    Attendance: 105

All heroes. All soaked. All questioning their life choices.

    ⚽ HELLENIC DIVISION ONE

    More water. Less football.

Alcester Town vs Clanfield 85 – P-P Cheltenham Saracens vs Redditch Borough – P-P Ludlow Town vs Chipping Sodbury Town – P-P Newent Town vs Bewdley Town – P-P Shortwood United vs Carterton – P-P Thame United Reserves vs Brimscombe & Thrupp – P-P Woodford United vs Stonehouse Town – P-P

    One lonely survivor:

    Malmesbury Victoria 2–2 Wantage Town

Football played. Goals scored. Conditions described as “character building”.

    🟡 ALLIANCE EAST

Hambleden 1–6 Ardley United Res Goals flowed freely. Hambleden… less so. Kidlington Dev vs Easington Sports Dev – P-P Banbury United Dev vs Hungerford Town Res – P-P

    🔵 ALLIANCE WEST

University of Bristol vs Highworth Town Res – P-P Bourton Rovers Dev vs Carterton Dev – P-P

    🏆 CUPS

Bateman Sports Alliance (Chairman’s) Challenge Cup: UDA Glos Dev vs Newent Town Dev – P-P Oxon FA Intermediate Cup: Clanfield 85 Res vs Headington Amateurs – P-P

    ☔ FULL-TIME SUMMARY

    Football tried.

    Football lost.

The rain remains unbeaten, ducks top the fair play league, and fixture secretaries are now legally entitled to cry.

Seriously — when will this weather stop?

We want our football back. ⚽🌧️🦆

  • 🔥 HELLENIC LEAGUE DIVISION ONE – AS IT STANDS 🔥

🔥 HELLENIC LEAGUE DIVISION ONE – AS IT STANDS 🔥

Where the title race is spicy, the middle is feral, and one dog might be barking a bit louder than the table allows…

🏆 THE TOP: Big Dogs, Bigger Statements

Out front, FC Stratford are setting the standard. 53 points, a healthy goal difference, and the look of a side that enjoys suffocating teams slowly and professionally. The league leaders know exactly what they’re doing – and they’re doing it well.

Right on their heels are Bewdley Town, just two points back and refusing to blink. Every dropped point at the top feels like blood in the water, and Bewdley are circling.

Then there’s Wantage Town. Third place, ridiculous goal difference, and quietly lurking like they’re more than happy to peak at exactly the right moment. If anyone’s got “late charge” written all over them, it’s Wantage.

🚀 THE CHASERS: Play-Offs or Bust

Stonehouse Town and Newent Town are locked in that awkward zone where you’re good enough to dream, but one dodgy run sends you tumbling back into the pack.

Malmesbury Victoria and Redditch Borough are hovering menacingly, with games in hand and momentum threatening to cause problems for anyone above them. Blink, and they’re knocking on the door.

Meanwhile Cheltenham Saracens are doing just enough to stay relevant, refusing to let the top half pull away completely.

😵‍💫 MID-TABLE MAYHEM: Choose Your Own Adventure

From Ludlow Town down to Woodford United, this is Division One’s no-man’s-land. Win two on the bounce and you’re sniffing the play-offs. Lose two and suddenly you’re Googling relegation permutations at midnight.

Alcester Town, Brimscombe & Thrupp, Chipping Sodbury, and Carterton are all living dangerously – inconsistent, unpredictable, and one Saturday away from either hero status or panic stations.

🚨 THE BOTTOM: Survival Mode Activated

    Things get grim quickly.

Wellington are battling through a tough campaign, Shortwood United are still searching for momentum, and then… well.

Clanfield 85 sit second bottom. 14 points, a rough goal difference, and plenty of noise for a team that’s still looking for answers. The confidence is admirable. The league table, less so. Let’s call it ambition slightly ahead of evidence.

And at the foot of it all, Thame United Reserves are enduring a season they’ll want to forget – five points, brutal numbers, and a long road ahead.

    ⚽ THE VERDICT

Top: Three teams, one prize, zero mercy Middle: Absolute carnage Bottom: Hard truths and harder Saturdays

Division One is delivering exactly what it promises: drama, tension, and enough storylines to fill the bar after full-time.

And as for the barking from down below? Results talk. The table listens. 🐕😉

  • 🔥 HELLENIC LEAGUE – AS IT STANDS 🔥 7/02/26

    🔥 HELLENIC LEAGUE – AS IT STANDS 🔥 7/02/26

Where promotion dreams are alive, mid-table is chaos, and the bottom is clinging on for dear life…

🏆 THE TITLE RACE: Blink and You’ll Miss It

At the summit, Droitwich Spa are setting the pace with 57 points from 28 games. Not flawless, but consistent enough to keep everyone else nervously checking the fixtures list.

Hot on their heels are Roman Glass St George, who’ve played more games but are still very much swinging punches at the top two. Meanwhile, Slimbridge are lurking ominously in third with games in hand and the best goal difference of the lot – the kind of team nobody wants to see hit form in March.

Add Worcester Raiders and Corsham Town into the mix and suddenly we’ve got five teams separated by just six points. This isn’t a title race – it’s a full-on street fight.

🚀 THE PLAY-OFF DOGFIGHT: Elbows Out

Cirencester Town sit just outside the top five, refusing to go away quietly, while Mangotsfield United are clinging onto mid-table respectability with a goal difference that screams “fine margins and squeaky bum time.”

From 7th to 13th, it’s absolute Hellenic League chaos. One good Saturday and you’re looking up. One bad one and you’re staring nervously over your shoulder.

Tuffley Rovers, Longlevens, Fairford, Cinderford, Hereford Pegasus and Westfields are all separated by vibes rather than points. Consistency here is optional. Drama is guaranteed.

😬 THE DANGER ZONE: Welcome to the Stress Factory

Down the bottom, things get spicy.

Highworth Town and Royal Wootton Bassett Town are hovering awkwardly above the trapdoor, while Pershore Town and Thornbury Town are knee-deep in the scrap and still arguing with gravity.

    Then it gets serious.

Lydney Town are taking punches weekly with a brutal goal difference, Hallen are fighting hard but need wins fast, and Cribbs are deep in survival mode – calculators out, fixtures circled, prayers whispered.

For Hallen in particular, games in hand offer hope, but the margin for error is officially gone. Every match now feels like a cup final… minus the champagne.

    ⚽ THE VERDICT

Top: Five teams, one trophy, zero breathing space Middle: Pure anarchy Bottom: Survival instincts only

If you like drama, late winners, angry WhatsApp groups, and league tables that change faster than referee appointments… the Hellenic League has you covered.

And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way. 🍿🔥

  • Fairman Fires Hat-Trick as Hallen Cruise Past Slimbridge

Fairman Fires Hat-Trick as Hallen Cruise Past Slimbridge

Harrison Fairman was simply irresistible on Saturday afternoon as he helped himself to a stunning hat-trick in Hallen’s emphatic victory over Slimbridge.

The striker opened the scoring in style on 42 minutes after Jack Busby produced a moment of quality, sliding a perfectly timed pass down the left-hand side. Fairman showed electric pace to burst beyond the Slimbridge defence before coolly slotting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to give Hallen a deserved lead.

Not long after the restart, Hallen struck again – and once more it was Fairman on the scoresheet. Luke Jones was the architect this time, delivering another excellent ball down the left flank. Fairman did the rest, finishing confidently into the bottom right corner to double both his tally and Hallen’s advantage.

The hat-trick was sealed in the 68th minute with a goal worthy of putting the game to bed. Hallen’s top scorer combined brilliantly with skipper Thomas Barker, whose perfectly weighted pass allowed Fairman to lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper from just inside the box, completing his second hat-trick of the season in emphatic fashion.

A clinical performance from Fairman and a dominant team display ensured Hallen left no doubt about the outcome, with the striker once again proving why he remains the focal point of their attacking threat.

  • Weekly update – 6/02/26

    Weekly update – 6/02/26

Weather dependent, there is a massive game in the 5thround of the Isuzu FA Vase seeing our remaining survivors in the competition, Hallen, hosting Gornal Athletic who sit 2nd in Division One of the Midland Football League. All the very best to Hallen to keep the UHL flag flying into the next round.

  • Edwards Ignites Fairford Fightback with Stunning 20-Minute Hat-Trick

Edwards Ignites Fairford Fightback with Stunning 20-Minute Hat-Trick

Late or not, this is one performance that simply couldn’t be missed.

In what can only be described as an incredible game of football, Harrison Edwards produced a sensational 20-minute first-half hat-trick to turn Fairford’s fortunes on their head against third-placed Slimbridge.

The context made the challenge even greater. Fairford found themselves 2–0 down, facing one of the league’s strongest sides, and having failed to score in their previous three league games. Add to that a four-game losing streak, and the signs were ominous.

But football, as ever, had other ideas.

A goal shortly after Fairford conceded their second proved to be the spark — and from that moment on, the match belonged to Edwards.

Club Football Director Jody reflected on the turnaround:

“In an incredible game of football Fairford found themselves 2–0 against 3rd placed Slimbridge and having not scored in their previous three league games, the omens did not look good. However a goal shortly after conceding the second proved to be the catalyst for Fairford and Harrison Edwards in particular, who went on to score a 20-minute first-half hat-trick to completely alter the course of the game and bring an end to a losing streak that has seen Fairford lose their previous four league games.”

Edwards’ treble wasn’t just clinical — it was transformational. In the space of 20 minutes, belief returned, momentum swung, and a game that appeared to be slipping away was completely rewritten. His goals carried urgency, composure, and conviction, lifting teammates and unsettling an opposition that had looked comfortable only moments earlier.

More than just goals, this was leadership through action. When Fairford needed inspiration, Edwards delivered it decisively — ending the scoring drought, halting the losing run, and reminding everyone just how quickly football can change.

Congratulations to Harrison Edwards on a remarkable hat-trick performance — one that didn’t just change a game, but reset a season’s momentum. ⚽🔥
