Hellenic League Set for a Thrilling 2025/26 Season

Proudly supported by our valued sponsor, uhlsport

The new season is nearly upon us, and with The FA’s club allocations now confirmed—subject to any final appeals—we’re gearing up for another action-packed campaign across the Hellenic League.

With old rivalries renewed, new faces joining the fray, and a few teams granted a second chance after late-season drama, the 2025/26 season promises to deliver everything we love about non-league football: passion, unpredictability, and no shortage of entertainment (plus the occasional questionable refereeing decision, with some added questionable team line ups, some traditions never fade).

Both the Premier Division and Division One are stacked with talent, ambition, and a healthy dose of local pride. Whether it’s a long-established club chasing promotion glory or a fresh challenger looking to make their mark, there’s no shortage of storylines waiting to unfold. And let’s face it—every match is a cup final when there are bragging rights and bacon rolls on the line.

Supporters can look forward to closely fought battles, surprise results, and the kind of grassroots football that makes you feel every tackle, every goal, and every last-minute winner. There’s a lot on the line this year, and every club will be out to prove a point.

Cinderford Town, Cirencester Town, Corsham Town, Cribbs, Droitwich Spa, Fairford Town, Hallen, Hereford Pegasus, Highworth Town, Longlevens, Lydney Town, Mangotsfield United, Pershore Town, Roman Glass St George, Royal Wootton Bassett Town, Slimbridge, Thornbury Town, Tuffley Rovers, Westfields, Worcester Raiders

    Hellenic League Division One (2025/26):

As always, a huge thank you goes out to uhlsport, whose continued support helps us keep the league thriving and the game growing. From matchday kits to training ground dreams, their partnership is a vital part of everything we do.

So get your calendars marked, your scarves ready, and your voices warmed up. The road to glory begins again—and this season, expect the unexpected.

And to beat you all to the question…. Fixtures are being worked on but as normal, won’t be ready for some time till other keys dates are known from The FA. Please don’t shoot the messenger!

  • That’s a Wrap! What a Finals Day for the Hellenic League!

That’s a Wrap! What a Finals Day for the Hellenic League!

And just like that… the curtain falls on another epic Hellenic League season – and what a way to sign off! Finals Day was packed with drama, emotion, and a little slice of history too.

First up – the Bateman Sports Chairman’s Final:

Swindon Supermarine Dev vs University of Bristol. Swindon arrived having played four games in seven days (seriously, their laundry bills must be sky-high), and though they battled hard, University of Bristol’s energy and sharp finishing saw them crowned cup champions.

But beyond the result, this fixture was a landmark moment for the Hellenic League. For the first time ever in a final, the entire match officiating team was female – and they were absolutely outstanding. Hats off to referee Imogen Hooper, assistant referees Rosie Johns and Ava Jordan, and fourth official Lola Pollard. A brilliant showcase of the incredible female talent rising through the ranks. The bar has officially been raised!

Then came the big one: The Marsh Challenge Cup Final

League champions Hartpury took on Worcester Raiders in a game that had everything… except goals. 90 minutes of action, passion, and goal-line scrambles, but nothing to separate the sides. So, of course, we went to penalties – the footballing equivalent of roulette.

In a heart-stopping sudden death finish, Hartpury held their nerve and edged it to complete a memorable double. Tough luck to Worcester Raiders – you pushed them all the way and deserve huge credit.

Massive thanks to Mangotsfield United for hosting the finals – a brilliant venue with top-class hospitality. We’re still thinking about those half-time snacks…

And of course, a huge thank you to our league sponsors, without whom days like this wouldn’t be possible:

Uhlsport – our main league sponsor Marsh, Bateman Sports, and Wiseman Lighting – for sponsoring our cup competitions and backing grassroots football in style

Now, it’s time to hang up the boots (briefly), give the washing machines a break, and enjoy a well-earned rest. But don’t get too comfy…

Keep your eyes on the Hellenic League events calendar for key dates – including the AGM, which is now online and expected to be held virtually. Get that date in your diary (no Zoom filters, please).

To all our champions – in league, play-off and cup competitions – congratulations! You’ve earned every bit of glory. And to every single club, volunteer, and match official who made this season possible – thank you. You are the heartbeat of this league.

That’s a wrap on 2024/25. Rest up. We go again soon. Up the Hellenic!

  • History to Be Made: All-Female Referee Team to Officiate Hellenic League Cup Final for the First Time Ever

History to Be Made: All-Female Referee Team to Officiate Hellenic League Cup Final for the First Time Ever

Monday, May 5, 2025 will be a day remembered in the history books of the Hellenic League.

For the first time in the league’s proud history, an all-female team of match officials will take charge of the Hellenic League Cup Final—marking a groundbreaking moment for equality, representation, and progression in grassroots football.

Leading the team on the day will be Referee Imogen Hooper, whose calm authority and consistent decision-making have earned her respect across the region. She will be supported on the touchlines by Assistant Referees Rosie Johns and Ava Jordan, both known for their sharp focus and outstanding positional awareness. In the technical area, Lola Pollard will serve as Fourth Official, bringing her steady professionalism to this high-profile fixture.

This historic appointment is more than symbolic—it’s a celebration of talent, dedication, and the continual evolution of the game. These four women have excelled through the ranks, breaking barriers and setting new standards along the way. Their appointment to the cup final is thoroughly deserved and reflects the high regard in which they are held across the refereeing community.

The Hellenic League is extremely proud to have these incredible officials as part of our refereeing family. Their achievement not only inspires the next generation of female officials but also underscores our commitment to supporting diversity and excellence in every aspect of the game.

League Referee Officer Craig Davenport shared his pride in their journey, saying:

“I couldn’t be prouder to know and work with Imogen, Rosie, Ava, and Lola. They have excelled this season in both the men’s and women’s game, showing professionalism, resilience, and outstanding ability every time they step onto the pitch. It’s been a privilege to watch them develop, and I truly believe this is just the beginning. I look forward to seeing how far they can climb—because the top is well within their reach.”

As history is written on May 5th, the message is clear: talent knows no gender. And thanks to trailblazers like Hooper, Johns, Jordan, and Pollard, the future of football officiating looks brighter than ever.

The final whistle on Monday won’t just signal the end of a match—it’ll echo as the start of a new chapter

  • Hellenic League Finals Day

    Hellenic League Finals Day

Well it’s been an action packed day.. not one, but TWO Hellenic League finals have been played today.

The Marsh Supplementary Cup and the Bateman Sports Presidents Cup.

Wantage Town took on Stonehouse Town, in the first fixture and looked to be on the back foot at 30seconds had gone and were a goal down. Most hadn’t even had a sip of their drink by this point. Some were still starting there watches! However they came back and fora large part of the game were equal. Both teams had chances and went in at half time having not only drawn level but taken the lead!! 2-1

The start of the second half the balance shifted more to Wantage, when referee Mawgan Andrew produced a red card to Stonehouse for a DOGSO offence. Stonehouse then put everything in to the game. Going two at the back, and then got a goal to make it 2-2 taking this game to penalties.

The drama continued and then after 3 penalties each, the Stonehouse keeper guessed right and saved a Wantage penalty. Stonehouse never missed and took the Win! Ten men Stonehouse were crowned Champions 24/25

In our second game of the day, Gloucester City dev, playing as UDA Gloucester vs Aston Clinton. This game was a battle from the start, then UDA took the lead and never looked back. The game got further and further away from Aston, but to their credit dug in deep. Matters got worse for them when they were also reduced to 10men for a SIN BIN offence, referee Coby Woodly not liking the words directed at him. However the game was for from reach for Aston Clinton with the game ending 8-0. UDA were crowned champions.

Well done to all the teams today, you all worked so hard to get to the finals, and as with our loved sports, there is a winner and a runner up. But credit to you all!
