THE BUILDBASE FA VASE Third Round
There were two Buildbase FA Vase involving Hellenic League teams scheduled for this afternoon. Binfield's journey was postponed on December 19 when the Tier 4 restrictions extended to Kent.
Brimscombe & Thrupp hosted Toolstation Western League Bridgwater Town, but not at Meadowbank, the fixture was played at Cirencester Town's Corinium Stadium.
After 25 minutes of play, just as Bridgwater start building pressure. An own goal from David Thorne breaks the deadlock, after Brimscpmbe's Ed Major drills a cross into the six yard box after a flurry of Brimscombe chances in the opening 25 minutes. A near instant reply from the Toolstation side when two minutes later Ben Kirk flicked home a Tom Ellis throw in at the front post 1-1. go in front. Chances fell to both sides for the remainder of the half with possibly the Brimscombe 'Lilywhites' having the advantage, but half time ended 1-1.
Nine minutes into the second period the 'Lilywhites' go back in front, a long range Jack Bartman effort from 30 yards finds the top corner 2-1. It looked like an equaliser in the 60th minute, Bridgwater have the ball in the back of the net but the referee spotted a foul and gives a free kick. In the 84 th minute Bridgwater's Tom Fry restored parity scoring a beauty of a free kick from 25 yards to make it 2-2!
After playing four minutes of added time deadlock remained and it went into a penalty shoot out to decide who goes through to the next round. Brimscombe took their leave from the Vase losing out 4-5 on penalties. Bridgwater go on to face Western League Tavistock Town in the next round.
