After the enforced ending of last season with the outbreak Covid 19, and all League results being declared null and void, the new uhlsport Hellenic League season started off with two games being played in Division One East on Friday night.
At their new residence Arbour Park in Slough, Langley hosted Abingdon United. The “U’s” took the lead through Conor Ingram in the first minute of play, adding another goal scored by Jack Gaul after 28 minutes of play. Paolo Cicero clawed one back for Langley two minutes after the start of the second half, but the game ended 1-2 to the visitors.
Wokingham and Embrook were five goals to nil ahead of AFC Aldermaston before the half time whistle at the Embrook Sports Centre, and that was the result at the end of the game. Another Southern League side, Didcot Town, welcomed Royal Wootton Bassett to the Loop Meadow Stadium. Bassett went into the game against their opponents as underdogs. But that was a role relished by Sam Collier's, with the pressure being on Didcot to avoid a shock exit. At Cinder Lane Fairford Town faced another Spartan South Midlands League team Edgeware Town. The Hellenic team were leading 2-1 until 4 minutes into added time when Edgeware levelled to take the game to a penalties decider. Fairford won the shoot out 4-1.
