Westfields 4 Stourport Swifts 1
Westfields continued their impressive start to the season with another hard-working performance over an impressive Stourport Swifts side last night.
Their visitors from the Midland Alliance were soon under pressure from the Westfields side when Richard Greaves put Westfields ahead in only the 7th minute when he was on hand to deflect the ball over the line from a Dan Stoneman shot.
Westfields kept up the early pressure but the big Stourport defence began then to settle and defend well.
At the other end, Paul Hurrell, the former Stourport Swifts defender, gave a solid performance in the first half as Westfields went in 1-0 ahead.
After the break Stourport equalised almost in their first attack to set up a thrilling second-half performance which could have gone either way as both sides used their substitutes well.
However, Westfields took the lead mid-way through the half when King Baidoo headed home at the far post to put Westfields 2-1 ahead and then as Westfields made the changes Keanu Cooper blasted Westfields 3-1 ahead with a terrific shot high into the net.
Westfields then swapped goalkeepers and introduced FA Cup star Keiron Blackburn into the Westfields goal after a long-term injury but he was well protected by sound defensive performances from Sam Rawlings and Paul Hurrell.
Westfields sewed up the match with a late 4th goal when trialist Karim Piere fired home low into the net after again good work by King Baidoo.
Stourport maintained their attacking style and should have pulled a goal back late in the game but they fired wide of the upright at the far post.
Strange circumstances here at Westfields again playing behind closed doors and on Saturday Westfields continue their pre-season friendly programme with a visit from US Portsmouth, kick-off at the earlier time of 2pm.
