Wellington 2 Malvern Town 4 (away view)

Malvern Town came home from Wellington on Tuesday night with a good three points following a 4-2 triumph.

We started slowly and found ourselves a goal down within the opening two minutes when Paul Jones’ effort found its way in with a deflection off Jay Sauntson. As we began to settle down after a somewhat nervy opening, a chance opened up for Joe Bullock who fired wide of the target.

The equaliser came on the quarter-hour mark when a poor clearance from the home side was seized upon by Bullock who fired home. We managed to turn the scoreline on its head on 20 minutes when Lewis Platt did well out wide on the left and his cross was finished with aplomb by Harry Clark. A neat move ended with Matt Turner heading home only for his effort to be ruled out by an offside flag, whilst at the other end, Will Perkins’ strike from just outside the area was easy for Keiran Blackburn. Our lead was further extended just past the half-hour mark when Joe Bates confidently fired home, giving the ‘keeper no chance. As the clock ticked down at the end of the opening period, Clark and then Turner were thwarted by the ‘keeper as we went in at the break 3-1 to the good.

The second half started with good work from Joe Billingham to set up Bates who made no mistake as he fired home. After the home side saw an effort fly over, Blackburn then did well to make a save from Rob Whitlock but he was beaten by Saul Thomas on 65 minutes as he seized upon some defensive hesitation to tap home. Some neat play ended with Curtis Smith dragging an effort just wide after James Febery had seen an attempt blocked inside the area moments before. A loose clearing header from Will Perkins fell into the path of Bates who drilled a low strike inches wide of the target. With just over ten minutes to go, Blackburn did well to deny Jones as we managed the game well in the closing stages to take home all three points.
