Shrivenham Football Club are delighted to announce their first signing of the summer, with news that goalkeeper Matthew Goldfinch is to remain at Barrington Park for another campaign.
Having arrived at the club during 2019-20 from North Wilts Youth League Division 1 side Wanborough Juniors [Black], Matty went on to start all 11 of the sides Corsham Print sponsored Wiltshire Senior Floodlit League games last season, which saw the side in second place in the standings before the season was cut short due to the Covid pandemic.
Of the games played, he picked up a red card in the sides home clash against eventual leaders FC Chippenham Youth as well as one yellow in what turned out to be the final game of the season before the Covid restrictions hit the country, against the same side. The games saw the side suffer just 2 defeats, with 1 draw and the remaining 8 all recorded wins in what was the sides debut season in the senior game. Matty also made the step up to feature in the clubs Development side, making 9 appearances from their 13 uhlsport Hellenic League 2 West fixtures, along with 3 on the bench and will no doubt go on to gain more valuable experience this time round.
Speaking about his signing, joint Shrivenham Youth Manager Paul Whitewood said “He’s a real prospect who is going in to his second season with the club - it’s great to have him onboard again. He’s vocal, agile and a great shot stopper so we have high hopes for his development and he’ll be looking to really kick on this season.”
Everybody at the club welcomes Matty back to the side and thank him for continuing his footballing journey with us and of course, we wish him another great season.
