Shrivenham's pre-season friendly against near neighbours Highworth Town at the Save On Tyres Stadium has been cancelled at the request of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One. Club Secretary Chris Rawle said: "Highworth have informed us that they’re unable to get enough of their Committee members together on the night, so they’ve sadly had to withdraw from the commitment to host our First Team.” The fixture was due to take place on Tuesday July 23 which now means the club will be looking for alternative opposition and Chris concluded: "We thank Highworth Town for giving us plenty of notice and we’ll now be actively seeking an alternative fixture.” The news comes along with a change of venue for our game against Purton – which has now been confirmed to be taking place at the Beversbrook Sports Facility – the venue in Calne where the club will also be facing Westbury United in an exhibition game before the season kicks off.
The cancellation means that the clubs preseason schedule lines up as follows:
Monday 17 – Players return for pre-season training.
Saturday 6 – Purton @ Beversbrook Sports Facility, SN11 9FL
Saturday 13 – Hungerford Town @ Bulpit Lane, RG17 0AY
Tuesday 16 – Westbury United @ Beversbrook Sports Facility, SN11 9FL
Saturday 20 – Devizes Town @ Nursteed Road, SN10 3DX
Saturday 27 – Wroughton @ The Weir Field, SN4 0RZ .
Any clubs interested in hosting our First XI on Tuesday July 23 are requested to contact Club Chairman Matt Hirst at firstname.lastname@example.org or call him on 07711 263 113.
Shrivenham Football Club will begin 2019-20 preseason training on Monday June 17, at their Watchfield Recreation Ground facility. Full timings and details will be updated nearer the time, however with the off season now upon us, we have begun our search for players who are looking to join an Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League club.
Speaking about the new season, club Chairman Matt Hirst said: “Although the 2018-19 season has only just finished, we’re already preparing for the start of the new one and arranging pre-season friendlies. We’re actively searching for a new Development Team coach and it’s only natural that we’ll be looking to attract players of a good standard to our try-outs to help push the club on even further. Ultimately, our management will make all the decisions as to who they would like to sign and traditionally pre-season see’s players moving around clubs looking to impress, but with finishing fifth in the standings this season, I’d imagine our stock is going to be quite high."
"Manager Gareth Davies has already said that he will be looking at bringing in one or two players to complement his side and as soon as he’s back from his summer holiday, he’ll likely begin that search, while our Development Team will also be on the hunt."
“The side achieved their best season in recent years this season, and whoever we bring in to manage them for 2019-20 will no doubt also be looking to complement his squad, make their mark and ultimately continue to improve on what we have achieved here at the club.” .
Players interested in attending preseason try-outs are asked to contact club Chairman Matt Hirst on 07711 263 113, or email him at email@example.com, remembering to include your name, position and playing history to date. Details will then be passed on to the relevant manager who will be in contact.
