Craig Martin uhlsport Hellenic LeagueBrad Martin’s hat trick and a scintillating opening 25 minutes for the Hellenic Premier side put them on their way on a cold midweek night at Saw Mills.

Following the game, Craig Martin (pictured) couldn’t hide his joy at the performance as well as the result – especially after Saturday’s defeat against Easington Sports.

“Wednesday’s performance was another fantastic response after losing to Easington at the weekend,” Martin told Severn Sport. “The pitch suited us to play our fast passing and quick football, which the boys did superb for the first 30 minutes or so. Scoring four goals in the first 27 minutes is always good at any level and then we got a response after half time as well and fair play to Hereford Lads Club they never gave in,”

“We still gave away sloppy goals and that’s something we as a team have to work on, concentration levels and performances need to be at it all the time,” Martin added.

The game saw the return of former Gloucester City U18s goalkeeper Kane Winman as well as starts for Joe Haswell and Jack Cornell – with the latter standing out in particular and got his name on the scoresheet in the process and Martin was full of praise for his side’s performances as individual.

“For me it was good to get Kane a start since his horrific injury against Fairford and he showed his quality by saving a penalty and getting straight back up to save the rebound as well, Joe Haswell his first start, Dave Merrick a much needed run out and Ed Smyllie back in the fold with a goal for him and a potential own goal too! The squad is shaping up nicely and we are still looking at trying to bring new faces in. Brad’s hat trick was great, but what we are seeing from him over the last few weeks is his work rate has stepped up massively. Shaun [O’Connor] again scores another set piece and Jack Cornell put in another good display and got a goal. I can’t be anything but delighted with what I saw,” Martin added.

Longlevens will look to build on their win when they head to Flackwell Heath on Saturday and they know that a win will see them leapfrog their hosts into 10th in the uhlsport Hellenic League Premier table.

Ahead of the game Martin has praised his counterpart Marcus Richardson and a typically tough Flackwell side.

“Saturday is another massive test for us,” said Martin. “We don’t seem to do very well at Flackwell, so we know what we are going to be in for and hopefully know how to try and compete during the 90 minutes. Marcus [Richardson] is a great manager with a lot of contacts, so it will be good to see what he’s got again this season,” Martin added.
