jamie reid fairford townFairford Town Assistant Manager Jamie Reid is eyeing up a bit of history for the club this weekend, as the Red's look to make the Third Round of the Buildbase FA Vase for the very first time in their history. Writes the Gloucestershire football blog Severn Sport.

Reid, who took charge of Fairford’s last two league matches, spoke to Severn Sport after his side’s dominant 3-1 win over Lydney Town on Tuesday evening.

“We obviously stressed before the game that we need to cut out our slow starts and conceding so early,” said Reid. “So to start so brightly was nice to see and for me we were well on top from the first whistle. Connor [forward Connor Thompson] was ruthless for us in front of goal and I thought we were excellent all round and I couldn’t have been happier with both performance and result!”

Tuesday night’s game was the second match in a row where Reid was at the helm, with First Team Manager Jody Bevan away on holiday with the family and Reid admits he felt the pressure as Fairford looked to build on their winning run.

“Jody left with us winning 6 on the bounce, so there was a bit of pressure in maintaining our form. Speaking to him last night, he couldn’t be happier and I know he can’t wait to get back to it. The two wins are very pleasing of course, but it’s a collective thing at Fairford at the moment- from Jody and his staff/players, to the reserves, the groundsman Radders and Stuart the chairman. We’ve had some tough times as a club and we aim to continue to build each game. We’ll enjoy the pats on the back definitely but we won’t be resting on our laurels.”

On Saturday the Robins head to Western League side Bitton in the Second Round of the FA Vase knowing that a win will make history for the club, who have only ever reached this stage of the competition.

But going into the game, Reid says that his side will be approaching the game as they would any other. “Saturday is just another game,” Reid said. “We know the strength of Bitton and they have plenty of quality to hurt us at any time. But as you may have heard me say before and as we tell our players it’s up to us how we perform and if we play like we have been then I know we’re all confident of the result going in our favour."

"We’re in a buoyant mood so we’ll do everything we can to create that little bit of history for the club……Anyway the pressure’s back with the gaffer so I’ll take my 100% record for now!” joked Reid
