Binfield completed their Pre-season last night with a 4-1 win at Hill Farm Lane against step 4 opposition Basingstoke Town in front of a decent crowd of around 150.
Both teams employed over 20 players in search of that magic formulae for the start of the season proper on Saturday ( For Binfield).
On a damp fresh evening the Moles started the better with Asa Povey and Eddie Lee a constant threat. It was Povey who opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a neat chip over the Basingstoke keeper.
The lead was short-lived as Jourdan Edwards took advantage of hesitancy in the Moles defence to make it 1-1 in the 18th minute.
Lee should have done better in the 20th minute when he scooped over before Liam Gavin restored the Moles lead with an unmarked header in the 25th minute from a Knight corner.
Binfield went 3-1 up before halftime when Povey converted a penalty which he had won in the 37th minute and the teams went in at HT 3-1 to the home side.
Wholesale changes in the second half didn’t spoil the entertainment for the 150 or so who braved the rain. Moles keeper Dave Lyons had to make a couple of smart saves before Povey registered his first Binfield hattrick with a smart run and finish in the 65th minute.
Full Time Binfield 4 Basingstoke Town 1 and good preparation for the difficult journey to Brimscombe and Thrupp in Saturday league opener.
