Lockdown Update - 16 January 2021

The Hellenic League executive promised a bi-weekly update of the latest position whilst the season is paused and hence this communication.

The main message is that there is NO CHANGE whilst we remain in lockdown. We are in the Government’s hands and no football at our level will be played until we are released.

Fixtures on Full Time have been removed to the end of January. This process will continue through succeeding weeks until a way forward emerges.

Survey from The FA on progressing this Season.
As previously advised FA have now created a survey to be sent to all National League System (NLS) Clubs on how to end / progress this season. Coincidentally, this communication was received earlier today and follows on from this Hellenic League update. Each club is be required to answer.

The League Hellenic Executive position on progressing this season
One of the primary objectives of The Hellenic League Executive is to see the proposed Restructuring take place and with this in mind, support the position already expressed by many of our NLS clubs. That is a desire to play the season to completion by following a summer break and restart in August / September.

This plan takes advantage of all of the effort made by our clubs and volunteers in playing our games to date in a Covid safe environment, and will offer the best chance of achieving a complete League Table. This in turn makes The FA restructuring at Steps 5&6 possible. Our Premier Division clubs then will finally see the end of the 200+ miles travel every other Saturday/Bank Holiday.

If we were simply to start again afresh in August we could be in this same position again next year, with no re-structuring to smaller footprint, with the escalating cost of travel, and struggles for player commitment. All in the background of reducing sponsorship.

Grants Update  - There are three that are currently Share of

Winter Support – This is the Grant and Loan scheme for Steps 3 to 6. Application details are awaited. It has been made very clear that clubs need grants, and not loans.

Government support via local Council program based on Rateable value. This was announced last week, and I hope that all clubs that are eligible have applied to their local council.

Club Support Program which was also announced last week. Applicants have so far just received a holding email from The FA. As a League we are investigating this situation.

Finance –  There are a handful of clubs that need to complete the payments by the end of January, unless they have an agreed payment profile with Brian King.
