Letcombe News - 19 October

Letcombe Football Club are slowly getting their squad to where they want to be. There has been an influx of several new players this year to add to the core from last year’s North Berks title winning team, and many new youngsters who Mick Cross has brought with him to form a solid looking reserve team in the North Berks league. It has taken some time to get everyone to adapt to the way the new management team of Garry Cook, Michael McNally and Mark Stevens want to to perform, but there are many positive signs, and a strong looking squad has started to put in good performances on a more regular basis. The availability of players has been a problem in the early part of the season, but we are now hoping to have the squad we want on a more consistent basis as we move towards the end of October with only one defeat. We have had the chance to look at some promising youngsters from the reserves, and they have more than stepped up to the plate in their first year of men’s football.

With the 3G training facility at Tilsley Park and the backing of sponsor IND TECH, it is an exciting time for the club with a bright outlook for the future on the horizon. We have said all along that we are a dangerous team if we can get everyone available!!

We have had a chat with the players and said that we need more commitment, and then results will come. Competition for places is always a good thing and keeps players on their toes. It takes time for a new side to gel and find its way, but we feel that we are not far away now, and to be second in the league at this stage of the season is more than we could have wished for. We have had a lot of home games, so points on the board was important, but we have no worries about picking up points on the road as we showed in pre-season at Cricklade and Abingdon United.

We take a break from league action this weekend as we play Wallingford reserves in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate cup, and this is a competition that we want to do well in, but commitment any squad consistency will be the secret to Letcombe’s success this season.
