Letcombe completed their programme of pre-season friendlies with a narrow victory at Wilts Senior League side Cricklade Town. With four players not available, Letcombe included 16 year olds Aidan Ormrod and Alex Harrison in their starting eleven.
Letcombe chose to play with a very strong wind at their backs, but found it difficult to judge the final pass. Kias Bonner-Shea held the ball up well in attack, but Letcombe were guilty of not shooting enough when openings arose. Mikey Annetts was outstanding in defence for Letcombe where he dominated in the air, and he was well supported by young Ormrod and full backs Jordan Smith and Chris Whelehan. The Mulvey brothers again worked tirelessly in midfield, with wide men Alex Harrison and Luke Polding looking dangerous when in possession. The best chance of the half fell to Cricklade in the closing minutes as a through ball opened up the Letcombe defence, but keeper Danny Joyce drove the forward wide, and although the Cricklade man rounded the keeper, his shot came back off the far post.
With the wind behind them, Cricklade pressed forward in the second half, but the visiting defence covered well, and Joyce handled the ball cleanly on many occasions. Letcombe made changes, including both central defenders, and the visitors scored the winner with ten minutes remaining. Alex Harrison exchanged passes with Kias Bonner-Shea before driving a low left footed shot just inside the far post from ten yards.
Lecombe visit Abingdon Town Development in the second round of the Faringdon Memorial Cup on Monday, 12th August, and then entertain Premier Division side Tuffley Rovers in the Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup on Saturday 17th.
