Highworth Town manager Jeff Roberts has warned his Bet Victor Southern League team against complacency as they prepare to host Ardley United in the Emirates FA Cup tomorrow.
Sport Reporter Harry Abbott writes in the Swindon Advertiser - The Worthians, who ply their trade in Southern League Division One South, have been drawn at home in Saturday’s preliminary qualifying round against Hellenic League Premier Division side Ardley United. As with all non-league clubs, a good run in the FA Cup can generate much-needed funds. The primary focus remains on the pitch, though, and Roberts is well that Highworth could come unstuck if they take their eye off the ball.
“Ardley have got something about them and a few lads that we need to be wary of but, at the end of the day, it is down to our boys,” said Roberts. “If we turn up, we can make it as comfortable as we want. If we don’t turn up, it could be a very awkward game. Every club and player wants to go as far as they can in the FA Cup. From a financial side, it is great too. I think it is just under £3,000 if we win on Saturday, which would be a great boost for the club. But we can’t look beyond Ardley. That is our focus, first and foremost.”
