uhlsport Hellenic League Division Two West Faringdon Town are pleased to confirm that First Team manager Chris (Wes) Benson has agreed to continue the excellent work he had begun in the Covid-19 hit season of 2019/2020 for season 2020/2021 (whenever it is likely to begin).
'Wes' (pictured left) introduced a number of new players to the club setup during his first season in charge following his promotion from the Reserve Team and this saw the side make steady progress through the season. With a third place finish in the uhlsport Hellenic League Division Two West and having booked a Quarter Final place in the Chairman's Challenge Cup, the side finished the season on an eight game league and cup undefeated run of results, with confidence high and a healthy following on matchdays.
To attempt to push the side further and improve the manner in which the game is played, Wes will be introducing Dan Ray (right) to the role of First Team Coach along with Paul Hume as Goalkeeper Coach. Both will work alongside the experienced Assistant Manager's of Martin Harries and John Lovegrove, who will continue in their roles from last season, to further enhance the management team.
Ray who played for Harries and Lovegrove is a FA Level 2 coach, who comes back to the club after most recently coaching the Chippenham Town Development side who unfortunately were pulled from the uhlsport Hellenic League Division Two West, last season by their parent club. Still involved with the Academy setup at Chippenham Town, Dan tasted success with them winning the under 18's Wiltshire County Cup in 2018/19 and these players played a nice brand of football in their first taste of senior football last season. He has previously worked for Swindon Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers as Academy Player Scout and Performance Analyst positions.
Also joining the match day and training team will be Paul Hume, who will be tasked with coaching all of the senior goalkeepers in the club, plus warming the First team keeper on matchdays. Peanut is a local lad who has experience with coaching goalkeepers in the women's game, having been involved with both Swindon Spitfires and Wantage Town Ladies. with his enthusiasm and will to succeed, this is another positive step in the right direction for the club.
The Reserves and A-Team will be continuing in the North Berks Football League, which has seen applications for new teams, following the premature end of the NBFL in 2019/2020. Dan (Barber) Kingsley will continue alongside Andy Tranter with the Reserve side, which has seen the relationship with the First Team improve, with many players last season making the step up to Hellenic League football and a good number of the younger players competing in North Berks Division Two. The A-Team had a new manager announced prior to the end of the season, with Liam Farmer taking over the role for one game before lockdown occured. Farmer will be looking to continue the excellent work the side does for the club, by allowing the older players to continue their playing day's, whilst nurturing our youth players into their first steps into senior football.
The First Team are inviting applications for the Physio position. This opportunity is voluntary with 1st Aid Kit funded by the club and would suit a trainee sports therapist or physiotherapy student looking to build experience within a footballing environment, and would provide the successful candidate with a chance to put the methods they have learnt at university into practice.
Duties would include supporting the first team at training as well as attending home and away fixtures in the uhlsport Hellenic League.
All enquiries and applications should be sent to Chris Benson at firstname.lastname@example.org or he can be contacted on 07392 806753.
