uhlsport Hellenic League Division Two West Letcombe secretary Des Williams had installed ‘YesRef’ two weeks previously, but they had their first home game last Saturday, 2 October. On the morning of the match he tried to set up the payment details, but mention of a friendly at Melksham (not involving Letcombe) kept appearing and freezing the screen. On the advice of Brian King, Des contacted ‘YesRef’ official Ben Williamson who was on his way to a game in Surrey. Des followed Ben`s instructions, who suggested various things including rebooting, but they could not solve the problem. They agreed to talk again later that evening when Ben was back at home.
Ben wanted to see the problem message for himself, so he sent an invitation to Des to join a virtual meeting, but this also failed, as did an attempt to link up via zoom. Ben wondered whether the problem was caused by Des using Firefox as his chosen browser, and suggested trying another one. Des followed Ben`s instructions to instal Google Chrome and put all the match details on ‘YesRef’, the problem was overcome, and the referee paid successfully, but it had taken an hour of Ben`s valuable time.
Ben said that this was the first time that he had encountered these problems, and wondered whether anybody else using Firefox had found similar difficulties. Des was relieved that the problems were not because of his incompetence, and would like to thank Ben for his patience and determination.
