Inspired by Oxfordshire Senior league side Marston Saints and mobilised by club centre-half Brad Chalmers, Heyford Athletic have completed a running challenge to raise funds for the NHS and specifically the Oxford Hospitals Charity with money going towards the fight against Coronavirus.
33 players and committee members from the club ran every day for 7 days with the aim being to collectively run as many miles as possible. There were some incredible achievements within this with the final distance covered being 2,160 miles, and some notable individual achievements with First team top goalscorer Kieran Chambers covering 137 miles, 42 year old veteran Steve Roberts covering 120 miles and club Captain Rhys Jenkins covering 111 miles.
So many incredible efforts on the road has translated into a fantastic sum raised of over £11,400 and with gift aid taken into account a current total of over £13,600 raised for our heroes on the frontline. Together with local sides Marston Saints, Freeland, Kennington and Bicester Hallions over £32,000 has been raised for the Oxford Hospitals Charity.
All at Heyford would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone involved with the league and its member clubs all the very best during these difficult times.
