Malvern Town are back into uhlsport Hellenic League action on Saturday hosting Newent Town in a Division One West fixture. (kick-off 3.00pm).
Malvern will be looking to add to their points tally to continue their climb up the League table against opponents who are searching for their first win of the season with three draws and eight defeats from their 11 League outings so far.
Malvern opened the League campaign against them back in August, chalking up a 7-1 win, but they know that their attitude and focus will have to be spot-on at the weekend.
“I think we have put in some great performances over the course of the season so far where we have really showcased what we are all about,” said front-man, Kyonn Evans, pictured. “The ones that stand out, though, are the games that we should have won or where we conceded too easily and we have to make sure that this doesn’t happen on Saturday. Our aim is to win the League, it has been since day one, and whilst we have a lot of games in hand, we are ready for the challenges that are coming our way.”
Evans admits that it has been a frustrating campaign for him personally so far as his progress was halted by a back problem. “I was sidelined with injury for eight weeks, which is the longest I have been out throughout my career so far,” he admitted. “It was frustrated because I want to be out there playing, but hopefully now I can get a good run of games under my belt and make a contribution. I don’t have specific personal targets as Milky and Harry will probably beat me to top goalscorer, so I just want to play to a consistent level and chip in with as many goals and assists as I can to help us win the title.”
With all of the positive things that are going on at the club both on and off-the-field, Evans is excited by what 2020 holds in store. “The set-up that we now have here is fantastic,” he continued. “What the Chairman has accomplished since he took over is amazing with the club growing on and off-the-pitch and looking to do things the right way. As players we are enjoying playing on the new surface; it really suits our style and the new facilities make it a good environment to be in.”
