The Malvern Town players put in another high-energy training session on Tuesday evening preparing for their first action of pre-season on Saturday with a trip down to Kent to take on Greenways.
For co-managers, Lee Hooper and Dene Whittal-Williams, there was an extra spring in their step with the news that the majority of last season’s squad have signed up for the new campaign in the Hellenic League Division One West. Louis Loader, Jay Sauntson, Adam Sauntson, Harry Clarke, Curtis Smith, Phil Harris, Bryan Craven, James Febery, Matt Fusco, Matt Turner, Charlie Weaver, Steve Webb and Harry Wickett have all committed themselves to the club.
“One of our main aims was to ensure that we signed up the nucleus of the squad that ended last season so that we can carry on the momentum that we built up,” said Hooper. “We’ve managed to do that, which is really pleasing."
“Continuity is so important and with some new additions, we’re really happy with the way that the squad is shaping up. The lads have really stepped up and put the graft in during our sessions so far; there have been good numbers turn up and the work ethic has really impressed us. We’re now looking forward to getting out there for our first game at the weekend and have the buzz of a matchday back again."
“We’ve played Greenways a few times over the years and they are always good encounters. We usually play them here, but it will be nice to go away as a group down to their place and play on the 3G surface, which will stand us in good stead for the season ahead. It’ll be a challenge for us but we are keen to carry on the momentum from last season, which is a big thing for us.”
