Malvern Town's, Dene Whittal-Williams, has hailed what he describes as a ‘great club performance’ after they ran out 5-0 winners over Stonehouse Town in their opening game of 2020.
“We started slowly in terms of our tempo,” he admitted. “But we eventually found a way to get through and show our quality. It wasn’t just about the players on the pitch; to have almost 200 people at the game was fantastic and they really inspired the lads on to this victory. This was a great club performance. The players have bought into the whole ethos and they are playing with so much confidence.”
Already attentions have turned to Saturday’s big game against fellow One West high-flyers, Thornbury Town. They currently sit in second place in the table with just two defeats in their 13 League games so far, one of which came against Malvern back in August which Malvern won 5-3.
“It’s going to be a huge game,” added Whittal-Williams. “We know exactly what a good side they are and the threats that they possess. That said, we know what we have to do and we’ll go into the game full of confidence and determined to keep building momentum. We’ll be well prepared and ready to work hard because we are under no illusions about how much of a battle it is going to be."
“Of course we want to see as many supporters here as possible to cheer us on and give the lads the backing that they deserve.”
