Marlow travelled to step four side Uxbridge and pulled of a minor upset with this comprehensive win over their hosts as they completed their pre season fixtures
Played on an immaculate surface Marlow took the field with a new look back four and probably a little apprehension as they weathered the early pressure from an Uxbridge team who pinged the ball around confidently.
The hosts gained three early corners and Keeper Partridge pushed away one curling effort to keep the score level.
United settled into the tempo of the game, their first effort arriving after ten minutes with the blues now giving as good as they got. Uxbridge were shading possession but Marlow were troubling them on the break and suddenly on 35 minutes they took the lead with Paul Rake picking out Chris Hurst, he burst through the Uxbridge back line before rounding the keeper and slotting home.
The game exploded into life minutes later with Marlow's Mitch Woodward involved in an ugly clash with his opposition number who stamped on the Marlow defender following a tackle, the offender rightly receiving a red card.
Both teams made numerous changes as the second period began and United should have doubled their lead with a lovely pass putting Qwam Thomas in the clear only for the ball to be fired high over the bar.
Uxbridge pressed for the equaliser but their efforts floundered on the centre back pairing of Woodbridge and Hardie, the latter being outstanding on the night.
Marlow were playing some excellent football and when the chances came it was trialist 22year old Charlie Bull who stylishly finished them off, picking up a Conner Shingleston through ball to score and robbing a defender to repeat the dose as United ran out deserved winners.
All in all it bodes well for coming season as they look forward the opening fixture at Kidlington on August 6th.
