Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup

Didcot Town Development 3 Penn & Tylers Green 1
Didcot are through to the 3rd Round Of The Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup with an excellent second half display earning two goals to give the Railwaymen victory.

The first half was fairly even with both teams having spells of good play in what was a fast moving open match. In just 6 minutes the home team gave away a free kick on the edge of the box and Rashid Hamed fairly whizzed the ball in to the Didcot top right corner to give Penn the excellent start they had no doubt hoped for. The lead however only lasted ten minutes when Ross MacDonald won a free kick 25 yards out. MacDonald took the kick which was a fiercely hit bending attempt which Keiran Collins did well to get enough on it to help it bend in to the corner of the net past keeper Mo Mustapha. MacDonald then had a low shot just past the post from a wide position while Didcot applied some pressure.

Back came Penn though and home keeper Sam Eeles was forced in to two good saves from distance from dangerous shots as the first half ended one goal each.

Didcot came out after the break firing on all cylinders as Penn were forced on to the back foot for a good 20 minute spell. Collins was fouled on the edge of the box and Keiran Davies resultant shot was palmed away for the first of a number of corners for the home team.

MacDonald sent in two wicked crosses that his teammates just failed to connect with and from another Collins free kick Davies headed just over. Penn failed to head the warnings though as Danny Morgan sent MacDonald through and his early excellent cross was knocked home by substitute Daryl Harris to put the home team ahead.

Four minutes later and Penn’s constant giving away free kicks resulted in a MacDonald bending free kick finding its way through a ruck of players low into the corner of the net to put the Railwaymen 3-1 up with 25 minutes remaining. Penn did come back and Hamid shot wide from a promising position. Both teams used all substitutes and although Penn had more of the ball in the last 20 minutes they could not create a clear chance as Didcot ran out worthy winners.
