Wallingford Seek Manager - 31 May

After seven years in charge of the first team at Wallingford Town AFC, Duncan Mitchell has stepped down from the role.

His decision was taken owing to work constraints and the club has already begun the search for a new manager to take on the side that finished last season in a creditable mid table spot in their first season back in Hellenic football.

The intention had been to recruit from within and appoint reserve team manager Arthur Morris but he too is in the throes of major lifestyle and career changes that look set to result in him emigrating with his family to the United States.

Club Chairman Simon Cowlard is already in discussion with potential candidates but is seeking additional applications for both First and Reserve team roles, he commented "Although we are naturally sorry that both Duncan and Arthur have had to relinquish their duties this does potentially represent a massive opportunity for the right candidates. The first team are now established in Hellenic Div 1 after a solid season and we are hoping to build on that with the nucleus of last season's squad who performed so well while we are also intending to enter our reserve team in Hellenic Div 2 so I'd imagine both jobs hold quite a lot of appeal. It potentially gives someone the opportunity to come in with an entire management/coaching team and structure the playing side of things across the whole senior side of the club".

Assistant Manager Andy Silver and Physio Mark Coles are both set to stay on, while Duncan will remain actively involved in the running of the club.

Applications are invited from anyone interested in either the First Team or Reserve team role, who ideally has recent experience of coaching or managing at Hellenic League level (or in the case of the reserve team role, has the ambition to do so and build on previous managerial experience) and who would be motivated by the prospect of working with the club to develop the team and the playing base while maintaining the strong club ethos of which we are justifiably proud.

Interested parties should contact Simon Cowlard on: simoncowlard@btinternet.com

Loan Players Sought - 23 November

Wallingford Town are on the hunt for one or two loan players to bolster their squad for the next couple of months.

Town have been hit with a run of injuries and upcoming work commitments and are seeking at least two loanees who are possibly not getting regular first team football at a premier division club. Any managers looking to give players some game time and keep them fit/playing should contact Duncan Mitchell on 07956 093066 .

Silver For Wally - 15 August

Former Binfield assistant Andy Silver has been named as the new Assistant Manager at Division 1 East newcomers Wallingford Town.

Andy took up his new role last week as Wallingford travelled to a Wantage Town XI in their final pre-season game.

Prior to his time with Binfield, Andy spent several seasons with Reading Town as Assistant to Colin Millard before taking over at the helm himself. He brings with him a wealth of coaching and managerial experience and will be a huge asset to Wallingford as they embark on their inaugural season back at this level. Silver had initially taken a break from the rigours of being involved so closely at a Hellenic Premier League club but when the position came up, with Wallingford only being a short trip from his South Oxfordshire home, he viewed it as an ideal opportunity to remain involved without quite the same demands on his time.

The Wait is Over - 11 August

After nine years away from Hellenic football, Wallingford Town kick-off their Division 1 East campaign tomorrow with Bicester Town the visitors to the Hithercroft.

'Wally' name a 14 man squad for the game:
Simon Matthews, Stuart Walker, Jon Stott, Tom Baptie, Joe Morris, Steve Gair, Danny Morgan, Max Mohan-Triggle, Euan Aitchison, Joe Webber, Will Wright, Charlie Silkstone, Jack McLaughlin, Stephen Eatwell

Summer Signings - 8 August

Following their promotion back into the Hellenic League after a 9 -year absence, Wallingford Town have been looking to bolster their squad.

Summer acquisitions include experienced defender Jon Stott and midfielder Josh Beech from Milton United while young Euan Aitchison has been signed from Southern League side Marlow, having spent last season on loan at Badshot Lea.
Josh Perry has joined the South Oxfordshire outfit after spells at Henley, Burnham and Reading Town and is joined by Aaron Lopes, another former Burnham and Henley man.

Former Berinsfield keeper Simon Matthews joins following several trophy winning seasons with his former club in the North Berks League while former Highworth, Didcot Town and Abingdon United keeper Josh Gannon has also put pen to paper.

Front man Will Wright has been signed from Watlington Town and defender Guy Bickerton from Thames Valley Premier side Rotherfield United while young James Stewart has been snapped up having been released from Oxford United's academy set-up.

Manager Duncan Mitchell is still looking to add a couple more names to boost the squad but says he's happy with the summer activity so far and is confident many of his promotion winning side from last season will be up to the task of Hellenic Division 1 football. Club skipper Tom Baptie, defenders Stuart Walker, Will Clements and Brandon Burton, young player of the year Joe Webber, plus Danny Morgan, Max Mohan-Triggle, Joe Morris, Steve Gair and top goalscorer Charlie Silkstone have all signed again having been part of the promotion winning squad.

Assistant Manager Position - 29 June

Owing to a change in circumstances, Wallingford Town are inviting applications for a first team Assistant Manager.

The ideal candidate will have some coaching experience but with a first team coach and other qualified coaches already in place it is likely that the role would suit someone looking to mix some coaching with some management responsibility.

Ideally the club would like someone who has played to a good level and has a willingness to muck in with all tasks.
