Stabmonks Two East Champions - 16 April

Chalvey Sports clinched the Uhlsport Hellenic Division 2 East title without kicking a ball yesterday. With other results going our way it meant that the Stabmonks have won their first League Championship in over 20 years, with four games still left to play.

This is a massive achievement for the club who only joined the Hellenic League this season after playing in the East Berks League for the last 25 years. Apart from winning the league this season, the club have played against their highest league opponents in their history when playing Brimscombe in the Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup which again was a major first and have played against sides we have never faced before and playing at places never travelled to previously.

Chalvey club secretary Steve Quelch said 'This is fantastic for us and all of the players and club officials have worked very hard for many years to get to this. It's been hard work, the club nearly folded seven years ago when we were struggling to get committed players but now being division champions has made all of the hard work worthwhile'

Chalvey's first team manager Merv Lloyd said. ' We have played some excellent football this year. I took over at the end of last season and added a minimal number of players to the squad and the combination of hard work and committed players has paid off. We have scored plenty of goals and probably more importantly we have been hard to score against and have only conceded nine league goals so far this season. Credit to the squad of players who have been excellent this season and we have had a committed and big squad of players to choose from. We run three Saturday men's teams and we all help each other out. Our reserves had won two consecutive league championships and are challenging for honours again this season as well and they have been there for us this season with players being happy to step up if we needed them to. Credit to club secretary Steve Quelch, club President Malcolm Young and Chairman Scott Young for working so hard behind the scenes because without them none of this would've been possible, coaches Quelch and Steve Warner have also played a massive part on match days and at training all season'.

Chalvey now have four very tough league matches to play in the next two weeks. The players aren't about to rest on their laurels against local rivals Lynch Pin or last years Division Two champions Penn & Tylers Reserves as the club want to maintain what they have started and to finish the season as strongly as they can.

A Step Into The Unknown - 15 February

Division 2 East side Chalvey Sports travel to play Premier Division side Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Bluefin Sport Challenge cup on Saturday, which will be the clubs first ever match against a team playing at step 5 and therefore the highest ranked side the club have ever faced.

It's a match that all players and officials are looking forward to and Chalvey manager Merv Lloyd will have a full strength squad to choose from. Chalvey have made a good start to life in the Uhlsport Hellenic League but the manager sees it as 'just a start'

Lloyd said. "We are looking forward to playing a club with a great reputation both on and off the pitch this weekend. It's a massive step up in opposition for us and the players are looking forward to the challenge, to think a few years ago that this club could play a match against such competitive opposition is unthinkable really. All we can do on the day is play at our best and be up for a good battle, let's see where it can take us"

The club are laying on a coach for the long trip for the players and officials and a number of ex Chalvey players are travelling to support The Stabmonks as this will also be the furthest the club have travelled to play match.

Chalvey Looking Forward To Hellenic Start - 4 July

Chalvey Sports commence pre season training for both our Uhlsport Hellenic League and East Berks League sides on Tuesday 5 July starting at 7 pm. Then every Tuesday/Thursday until the end of the season.

All previously registered players and new players are welcome to attend.

The first team will be playing in the Division 2 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League this season under the new management team of Merv Lloyd and Steve Quelch. Chalvey Reserves taking a step up into the East Berks Premier Division after back to back league championship wins under Carl Feasey.

Chalvey have also received some great news after winning an equipment giveaway from the Berks & Bucks FA, which will see the club receive addition training and match day equipment.
