Development Squad Head Coach - 19 April

Abingdon United are delighted to confirm that as of the 2016/17 season we will be introducing a second side which will be known as “Abingdon United Development”.

The club have applied to play in the side in Division Two of the Uhlsport Hellenic League. This is part of Abingdon United’s long term vision and commitment to develop the best young local talent in the area, and the club are seeking a motivated person to take on the role of Development Squad Head Coach.

The successful candidate will work closely with the first team head coach to ensure all opportunities for player development are being taken.

Desirable experience:
Minimum Level 2 FA Coaching Qualification
Evidence of developing and nurturing local talent
A proactive mentality of finding new talent as well as the ability to help others
A firm believer in player development and team discipline and club togetherness

Abingdon United New Management Team - 30 June

Abingdon United Football Club have announced a new management team that they believe will provide a stable and structured future for the club.

steve alman abingdon footballThe club have appointed Steve Alman as 'Club Head Coach'. Chairperson Debbie Blackmore said "We had a high number of applicants for the post but Steve demonstrated above all others the right skill set required for the 'Head Coach' position. I know Steve will work hard with other members of the clubs management team ensuring a bright future for this football club.

Previously a coach at Wantage Town, Steve is excited and positive about the future. "This is a fantastic football club with a proud history and I am extremely happy to have been appointed Head Coach. I am very excited about the future, and equally there is a buzz and excitement around this club. We will have a young team next year that will grow together, a team that will be the foundation and ‎I am hopeful that this new team will continue its development and achieve promotion back to the Southern League in the next 3-5 years. The Southern League is where a club of this size with it's fantastic facilities should be.‎ I firmly believe all of us here at Abingdon United Football Club can achieve that goal, and I will do my upmost to drive the objectives forward to make this club successful once again.

james blackmore abingdon footballAlso new to the management team is James Blackmore who takes up the newly formed role of 'Head of Football Development'. James states "We strongly believe that in order for this football club to continue growing we needed to introduce a Youth Development Programme. This will enable us to recognise, recruit, develop and produce talented local young players that will have the opportunity to play within the first team. I know the club will work hard delivering this programme and providing the best local players the best possible development."

Abingdon United have already increased the number of youth teams from 3 last season to 5 for the 2015/2016 season but plan on increasing further during the next few years.

Debbie Blackmore went on to say "This is a very exciting time for the football club. We have a clear vision that outlines the importance of developing young, local players that will provide us with a bright, stable future.
